We have been to the car dealer before regarding a brake issue we had only after having the car 3-6mnths and he said it wasn't anything to do with him! I have maintained our car since having it, all except the anti freeze, so I despise now people are stating I don't know how to look after a car. I ALWAYS make sure the water and oil are good and we had no problems, no sign water was dirty or anything till the day it overheated. No other warning signs. And straight away it was brought into shop and fixed, with new radiator and new thermostat.

I think some of the responses here have been pretty "direct" and not very conciliatory. However the reality is that after 12 months of ownership any responsibility for the condition of the car, and any faults it may develop, are yours.I think those comments stem from the feeling that it's a bit rich that after such a period of time you could think that the seller has any responsibility, whether legal or moral.Whether you knew the radiator didn't have anti-freeze / inhibitor or not, and even given your "mechanic" said it wasn't needed, the reality is that unfortunately, the problem is all yours.Sorry.

When the car is sold from a car sales yard doesn't it have to be serviced and up to a warrantable standard! Isn't putting anti freeze in a standard thing when serviced! According to what everybody is telling me! The state of the radiator was so bad that even after a year of driving it it wouldn't have gotten that bad. And it was shown to have NO TRACES of any anti freeze at all. So surely some kind of agreement can be made here! Even if we trade it in on another car off the lot! Something must be able to be sorted surely!

Like he has a another Estima 1995 for a $1000 less than what we paying for ours.could we trade ours in on it! How does it work!
countrypete,

No, there is no requirement for a car to be "serviced".And, sorry, but the fact is that a radiator can be horribly gummed up in 12 months of use.

The dealer would hopefully do a good deal for you on the Estima he / she has.But sadly, your current car in its current condition is worth almost nothing as a trade-in.

Look.don't buy an old Estima.please.

If you have a leg to stand on with anyone I would say its the mechanic that said you don't need antifreeze. This is what has caused your problem. I'm assuming that you didn't get a pre purchase check done because they would have told you it needed antifreeze.

if you say it got low again and over heated then it has a leak somewhere. probably the water pump is stuffed

Did you see the post where there is oil over the back of the van it has serious problems water pump wont do that cracked head blown gasket or worse

I think, if you have comeback on anyone, it's the mechanic who "serviced" it.
But, I think you don't really have any comeback now.
And I suspect your current car is poked and not worth fixing (at ~200km).

Yep, get a new vehicle or fix this one, unfortunately at your cost
karmaangel,
Dec 2, 7:23pm
2001 Honda odessy = $10,995. !
wind.turbine,
Dec 2, 7:25pm
yea but why did it over heat again! what cause the the block to crack or head gasket to blow! radiator is new, thermostat is new so that leave the water pump. Of course after it over heats a number of things can give up.
karmaangel,
Dec 2, 7:25pm
We are in position to just go out and purchase a new car. Especially when are paying off the Estima.
splinter67,
Dec 2, 7:28pm
Blown head gasket from the first time it was cooked or cracked head from the same episode

Don`t forget if you financed with MTF for 2 or 3 years, you could still owe a lot on this car, which you will get offered next to nothing for, if the dealer knows about the overheating issues. It could still be a cheaper option to fix yours or fit a 2 nd hand engine if required.
wind.turbine,
Dec 2, 7:28pm
don't think you have a choice
a.woodrow,
Dec 2, 7:28pm
If you aren't! in a position to buy another vehicle you may have to look at a new motor in the van
wind.turbine,
Dec 2, 7:29pm
yea maybe
splinter67,
Dec 2, 7:30pm

Exactly.we even had the thermostat left out for a week to see if there any other problems (which there wasn't) so it was put back in and we drove around for a couple weeks not a problem till Friday. Temp gauge said it was overheating but it wasn't (took radiator cap off and everything was fine !) (faulty gauge reading!) Then we were jump started ONLY cos car had gone flat due to hazards being on. Drove off and everything was fine till all of a sudden it started making a noise and then lost power and stopped. It was then take to the mechanic where it is now
