I thought it was only BP, but someone told me Mobil have started doing it as well. I would suggest you check their website.

Update. had a nosy myself, its known as Synergy 8000 and has a minimum of 97.5 RON. Its not available at all Mobils though.
I just wish more drivers of direct injection vehicles that require 98 octane would use it. I blame sleazy car dealers for not mentioning it in case it puts customers off.

Oh sure, next time I fill up, I'll just pour some LPG down my petrol tank.

BP and Mobile have 98 and if you want Ethanol in your 98, Gull has theirs.

Do Mobil still do 98! I thought they stopped, maybe just my locals.
98's a pain, can't get it reliably enough. We just run ours on 95

In fact some do the opposite and say run it on 91 to save money, with scare mongering tactics.

Don't use Gull's fuel unless you have done your OWN research as to its compatibility with your vehicle.
Personally I won't use Gull on principle, I find it disgusting that they are buying up rural service stations (usually the only one for miles) and then stocking fuel that is incompatible with many cars, boats and some agricultural equipment.
They are very sneaky with how they market and are clearly all about themselves without any thought for the people they inconvenience or put in harms way.

Mobil in Kilbirnie still has 98

Make sure your vehicle can actually be run on 95 without long term detriment. Some modern vehicles can't, don't necessarily trust your owners manual either if its a direct injection vehicle.

What are you on about!

04 Legacy GT and 05 Galant. Seem to be fine. Galant much better on 95 than 91 (even though the manual says 91 minimum)

Some car dealers advising to use 91 as a sales tactic when higher octane should be advised in the real world. Like direct injection as per your above post.

Is the Galant a GDI!

As a side note, be VERY careful using Gull fuel in your chainsaws etc, it is known to destroy fuel lines etc due to the ethanol. Personally have just had to replace all fuel lines in my petrol hedgetrimmer and newish large Solo chainsaw after using Gull 98 for a few months and leaving them sitting in the shed for a couple of weeks without use. Well known problem overseas, especially with Stihl chainsaws, apparently the ethanol eats the rubber and causes it to collapse, stopping fuel flow.

Not to mention outboards and marine use with gull fuel. thejazzpianoma should be able fill you in

Nope. NZ New 2.0l

I just didn't get why you were saying "just the opposite" but I think I get you now. The sneakyness and/or incompetence of some dealers annoys me, to say the least.

Long day here my friend, my apologies. But yip you have it in a nut shell!

I'm with you, I refuse to use Gull because of the ethanol content, I'm sure it's not as economical. I've used it from time to time when it first came out, but found I wasn't getting the mileage out of it, so I now use Shell 95 for every day use and BP 98 for my classic.

Gull was watering down the high octane with butane (up to 5%) and not paying fuel tax, and this may have been the cause of the damage. I used it once in the Dore and a fuel sensor failed 1/2 way into the tank. Co-incidence.maybe however I will not use it again.
Its proven not to give you as much fuel milage, this goes a long way to offsetting any fuel saving. They have already been had up about it once for not being up front about it.

Thanks everyone.I have a Honda Civic and have found running it on anything other than 98 causes the engine to rattle and pink. Am off around the South Island soon and was wanting to know, beforehand, where the outlets were.

Probably O.K on 95 then.
