If it's a late model Type R then I wouldn't be all too surprised, with the 11.5:1 compression ratio and all.

Get the tuning checked. Especially check that the ignition timing is not over advanced - if that is adjustable on your model. I would think most older Civics should be able to run well on 95 if tuned correctly. Does it burn oil! This can make an engine pink too.

I used to use Mobil on crn Lincoln and Central Park when I had a Mobil card, but now use BP on crn Swanson and Larnoch as they are closer and use AA reward card.

WARNING.using the gull high octane fuel may / will cause damage to your performance engine. I believe gull use ethanol to help boost the octane rating of their premium fuel. most of you fellas' know that to run meth/ ethanolyou need twice + the amount of fuel to run these fuels at safe A/F ratios. ( running a petrol/alky mix is just the same ) If your running an engine that has a fuel loading limit ( nasty oxy sensor / injector size ) it won't know that it is running dangerously lean, and if it does, it can't correct the problem, a couple of good steps on the loud pedal, and KABOOM !I know of two engines that went to heaven this way

marsden point is still not upgraded , i spoke to somone they are in the us and other places training for the upgrade install , also gull no longer imports its own fuel liek they usd to. I only buy caltex most times , ethanol is the cause of rust in ultra low sulfur diesel systems also.

Only use 98 in my turbo, used 91when gas spiked and the shit fuel buggered my fuel pump and spark plugs, never again and it's been sweet ever since.

You dont know what you are talking about as usual.

FYI:
Don't be fooled by BP 'Ultimate' diesel though, it's not higher octane, just a low foam formula and my Amarok doesn't like it - it runs best (quicker, more responsive, quieter) on 'Z' diesel.

Because higher octane fuel runs cooler, and supposedly burns cleaner.and since the saw is doing between 13-14000RPM I thought it may help a little. I run 95 minimum in everything apart from the lawnmower.okay with you!
johnf_456,

another is the octane drop over time, especially since lawn mowers dont always get used for a month or two over winter.
ambo11,
Dec 29, 5:12pm
Yep, I've found using 95 minimum in the cars over 91 seems to make them run "nicer", and they are maybe a little more economical, and have heard various horror stories about the quality of NZ's 91 petrol.so have just got into the habit of using 95 minimum. I think even Gull 91 has ethanol, but maybe I'm wrong there. In any case I've been put off Gull fuel well and truly now.

Yip 91 is rubbish fuel

Gull fuel only hasabout 80% of the 'energy' other fuels have.

All diesel except BP ultimate comes from the same storage tanks at the terminalsEg in Auckland it all comes down the same pipeline to the WIRI terminal . With the exception of BP ultimate diesel no other oil co adds a additive to there diesel so diesel is the same no matter which oil co you buy from

Handy info - thankyou.
I'd only ever used BP diesel until I got a 25 cents off Z voucher. The marked difference in engine performance was extraordinary.
I'd run my tank almost dry, brimmed it with 'Z' diesel (78 litres into an 80 litre tank) and when I started up the next day it fired into life quicker, was quieter at idle, smoother at all revs, pulled harder through the rev range and kept pulling hard until 4400rpm instead of tailing off around at 3900 revs.
Over 1000km of my same day to day driving it used 8 litres per 100km instead of 9 litres.
Is BP's 'Low Foam' additive pack degrading engine performance!

All that petrol comes from the same ship into the same storage tanks at the port its only the paint scheme on the delivery tankers that varies, Do you oafs actually believe the advertising lies, Never got any bubbles from Caltex in my diesel, I think they are fibbing about their additives.
