Sadly another cyclist has been killed

Every day I see cars speeding, running red lights, coasting through stop signs, parked illegally.,,, whats your point!

kazbanz, Mar 22, 6:28am
Simple point really dude.Run a red in a car -most likely outcome is a mashed car. run a red on a bike most likely outcome-mashed cyclist.
Regardless off right or wrong dead is dead

trogedon, Mar 22, 6:42am
Another reason why there are so many bicycle riders there.

dr.doolittle, Mar 22, 7:38am
I disagree. Cyclists, like motorcyclists, tend to be much more aware of their surroundings. Generally speaking.

kazbanz, Mar 22, 8:10am
so you disagree that dead is dead! Or you feel you can honestly say that cyclists don't cause their own deaths!

kyokei, Mar 22, 8:17am
Used to cycle for a few years so I can agree to a point. Unfortunately the cyclist I saw this morning wearing earbud earphones connected to an ipod/phone strapped to his arm would be anything but fully alert of their surroundings.

Yes & Yes.

Bothnot in the samecategory ,i.e. . motor v pedal ! Awareness is relative to all sorts of factors anyway regardless what ever

i dont understand this behavior in people

when your on a pushbike, you need all the things that keep you safe (eyeballs & a working brain) in even greater abundance than car drivers have / use

bid-warz, Mar 22, 6:27pm
I dont mind a cyclist thats single riding near the curb I can happily and safely pass them but some cyclists are arrogant arses no consideration what so ever, Ive had groups or even just 2 hog the road, passing them is risky and dangerous, sometimes they take the space of a full car that you have to overtake and go onto the other side of the road. theres been times where Ive had to lag behind until they give ME space to pass. Some like to sit in the middle of the lane first at the red light whats that about!Country roads and other 100km road are just dangerous full stop, if another car is coming the other way when Im trying to pass a cyclist I actually get really nervous - its a tight squeeze, not safe for anyone!

kezza46, Mar 22, 6:56pm
try the ChCH to akaroa highway on the weekends, groups of up to 20 riders 2 to 3 abreast weaving around each other, ten pin bowling springs to mindlol ,being a truckie,I love the cyclists who come up from behind when I'm indicating going around corner and they just come up the inside of the truck.didn't you see the yellow light blinking on and off!Or did you just wanna check my chassis as you go under the wheelslol.this is one of those situations where everyone is right and wrong,no clear winner.damn you Jetsons.where is my flying car!

trogedon, Mar 22, 7:00pm
Sometimes (and I've done this) we cyclists ride 2 abreast so vehicles have to make a deliberate passing move instead of trying to squeeze between the riders and an approaching vehicle. The passer has to pass when its clear ahead.

kezza46, Mar 22, 7:14pm
and the first to cry foul if something goes wrong!

philltauranga, Mar 22, 7:56pm
From a truck drivers view I have hardly had any trouble with kids on bikes going to school ect, they keep left and respect the road, and allow room for us as we allow room for them.
Some of the lycra type out training or what ever are seriously taking the p1ss tho, riding in the lane when there is a huge shoulder, riding 2 abrest, not using cycle lanes, riding up the left- inside of us at roundabouts- no one is looking in the left mirror we are looking for traffic to the right, you will get nailed into the curb as the trailer cuts accross the corner. This has happend to me a number of times, lucky they didnt get hit tho, its just a pure death wish.

trogedon, Mar 22, 7:58pm
We/they do it for everyone's safety. If there is a problem its likely to be the passing vehicle not the passee.

Note; tidy up your grammar.

kezza46, Mar 22, 8:03pm
wow,a personal attack on someone who is dyslexic and relies on spell check.thanks a lot!

matarautrader, Mar 22, 8:25pm
And if it is the passing vehicle! Remind me again who will walk away and who will be turned into sausage meat to be washed away by the firemen! It will be a great relief and pleasure for all your friends and relatives to say " Yes he was right about the road rules. What a pity he was squashed by a truck and hes dead!". They will comment how sad it is that you lost your life, then they will say now what are we going to do this weekend because we are alive.
Theres been quite a few deaths of cyclists being run over by vehicles but (correct me if I am wrong) absolutely NO deaths of vehicle drivers that can be attributed to cyclists.

kezza46, Mar 22, 8:31pm
just what the poor driver and all family members have to deal with for the rest of their lives, even if the driver isn't at fault, they still have to deal with the emotional roller coaster

trogedon, Mar 23, 4:53am
You're welcome. Just using my teaching degree and SPELD training.

kazbanz, Mar 23, 9:43am
Little johnny was riding his bike,Little Johnnywas always right.Little Johhny knew he had right of way.Little Johnny ended up dead that day.
On little Johnnies headstone it says "He KNEW he had right of way"

beat ya chest as much as you like.Cry to the cosmos "it ain't fair" -doesn't matter a darn. Argue with a car or bus or truck that you have right of way you will ALWAYS come off second best.
All the legislation in the world ,All the rights in the world ain't gonna help ya when a driver whose dealing with sunstrike or an oncomeing truck doesn't give you your "rights"

kehua, Mar 23, 10:50am
Maybe cyclists should be put back on the footpath & become the pedestrians problem again.

lazeeboy, Mar 23, 1:17pm
That is a stupid and ignorant thing to do.

It's high time cyclists like YOU got sucked under a truck.

All the best with your death wish. D!ckhead!

lazeeboy, Mar 23, 1:23pm
What's truly amazing trog dawg, is you claim to have a teaching degree.

Yet you behave like this.

I already owned you at least twice in this debate so instead you chose to pick on someone who isn't a great speller.

I think your a coward in respect of the above and for more you shouldn't be teaching anyone on account of your lack of common sense.

lazeeboy, Mar 23, 1:27pm
There, I also tidied up YOUR grammar.

lpggas, Mar 23, 2:56pm
Well considering it was quite a bunch of them the driver should have had his eyes open & seen them . he should then have given them the recommended 1.5 mts clearance , ( of which there are several signs on that road advising that ! ) . If he couldnt do that safely he should have waited until it was safe to pass . It's not rocket science
