Sadly another cyclist has been killed

totally right there!
problem is that you never know if the cyclist was the cause and lost control and got sucked in.
no one knows with that sort of thing unless someone is right there watching it happen.
yet the blame is always and I mean always put on the driver whether it be a truck or even just a car!

henderson_guy, Mar 19, 7:19pm
Was front page of yesterdays Herald, I'm sure if you search their website you'll find the story. Also mentions that the truck hit her FRONT wheel, make of that what you will. As I've mentioned already, this road is barely wide enough for 2 trucks to pass each other without knocking mirrors, with NO shoulder whatsoever, AND is a heavy haulage bypass of the Atiamuri bridge, AND has 3000 vehicle movements a day.

wind.turbine, Mar 19, 7:23pm
front wheel!
well thats says it all.
She would have lost control

puddleduck00, Mar 19, 8:01pm
Too many armchair experts thinking they know what happened by the little information the media has fed them.

trogedon, Mar 19, 8:51pm
A cyclist's wheel wobble doesn't mean they're lost control it can just mean their wheel wobbled.

1 - I didn't berate anyone, I suspect that comment is retaliation for something I wrote that hurt your pride.

2 - I am 100% positive in my mind the driver involved didn't hit the cyclist on purpose - If he did, why was there only one down!

3 - There is no need to insult me on account of your inferior debate skills.

4 - Some cyclists are out to intentionally get in the way of motor vehicles. I have experienced this and know others who have.

oliver6, Mar 19, 8:57pm
I agree. I am 100% confident the driver did not hit hit the cyclist intentionally

onelonly, Mar 20, 1:27am
not a hard concept to grasp is it.

trogedon, Mar 20, 6:13am
I am 100% you don't know that for sure. I'll await the Police findings.

lazeeboy, Mar 20, 6:30am
Police findings are NOT always correct either.

Suck it up trogdawg.

flack88, Mar 20, 6:53am
Perhaps if a road is HEAVY traffic bypass, and is very narrow, with no shoulder as such,a bit of feking old fashionedcommon SENSE would prevail!!Or Darwin has to sort it again,he going to be busy.

paddyman, Mar 20, 7:43pm
Cyclists belong on cycle lanes only, motorists pay for them so thats all they should be allowed to use. No cycle lanes no riding ya bike!

oliver6, Mar 20, 8:07pm
You right in a way, considering the apalling standard of dring in NZ, and the fact that many drivers have no regard for other road users at all. However, if cyclists paid towards the roads, ACC, Registration etc, it still would not improve the terrible standard of NZ drivers, or cure the aggression problem we see often

glendikoorey, Mar 20, 10:07pm
Exactly; I've never understood how riders paying to "use" the road or being licensed/registered is going to improve the behaviour of other road users they encounter out there. And clearly being licensed/registered hasn't exactly made driving a motor vehicle a perfect fault-free experience.
But this "paying to use the road" is bunkum anyway - no-one in NZ does that, and EVERYONE already contributes to providing transport options - see http://cyclingchristchurch.co.nz/benefits-of-cycling/mythbusting-cyclists-dont-pay/

jason18, Mar 21, 4:52am
To be honest. Humans make mistakes. Best drivers in the world make mistakes its just what we do. We can argue about who is at fault till we ar e blue in the face. Simple fact is someone took there eyes off the road for a split second causing something terrible to happen. Hell who is to say the cyclist didnt get caught up in a bit of a random wind pushing her closer to the truck!
How many here cyclists and drivers can say that they havent made a mistake while driving! I sure as hell have. Its just unfortunate that this lady has been killed.
Cyclists with RUC wont change anything. Driver education every year.even every damn day wont stop your mind thinking about something else whie driving causing you to make even the smallest of mistakes

trogedon, Mar 21, 6:47am
Try harder Troll.

oliver6, Mar 21, 6:34pm
It seems they should ban trucks from using that road.

wind.turbine, Mar 21, 6:42pm
you cant ban something that pays to use the road unlike cyclists

oliver6, Mar 21, 6:45pm
Of course we can ! If the road isn't wide enough, trucks should not be allowed on it. Simple.

dr.doolittle, Mar 21, 7:01pm
Fair enough. So you're supporting a cycle lane on every road.
Good on you.

wind.turbine, Mar 21, 7:25pm
trucking is a Big part of NZ.
I don't think there going to ban them from some roads just because cyclist cant fit on it with them.
If anything ban the cyclists!

trogedon, Mar 22, 4:59am
Word.

kazbanz, Mar 22, 5:04am
Jest a thought-lets go to the jap system on highways-User pays.
Ya wanna drive a tank, truck mazarati or unicycle on a road you pay the toll to use it.-that would make it easy wouldn't it.-
Then the money gathered to use said road could be used to maintain said road.

strobo, Mar 22, 5:06am
YEAH RIGHT !

flack88, Mar 22, 5:48am
Had a coupla lance armstrong wannbes ,ignore the give way, and ride out in front of me,on an 80kmh stretchof road, seen them coming at high speed, and lifted my foot, anticipating that they wouldnt stop, they thought it funny, see how funny compound f.g fractures are!
