Nope not a chance, they simply cause too much local air pollution

Go and read about the problems France is having and what they propose to do about it

Not sure if that applies in NZ.
VW sold 234 cars in NZ in October.
Toyota sold 2,760.

If they're so very desirable, how come so few people buy them?

richardmayes, Dec 2, 10:52pm
Because the "desirable" ones are about twice the price of a basic japper?

I'm not trying to argue that black is white. New VWs are widely perceived as "flash" cars in a way that Toyotas just aren't. I'm sorry I can't quote references.

mm12345, Dec 2, 10:59pm
Well they shouldn't be, IMO the basic golf/polo/tiguan is an appliance just like similarly priced jappas. Some good features, some not so good.

It does make me laugh a bit how some silly fanbois were posting on the thread about how utterly tewwible and insensitive to animal pests hunted in NZ the hilux ad was, but then make excuses in this thread for VW's blatant cynical cheating on emissions - which really do kill innocent children, the elderly, and the vulnerable in cities.

I don't think litigation & sales drops etc costing potentially into the billions of ?

NZ is not reflective of world market. Europe September VW sales (not VW group) 152,000, Toyota 56,000.

Decades ago the mark 1 golf was assembled here and sold like hot cakes. Then slowly assembly died and only the japNese hung in there and fairly won market.
Also new car sales are influenced hugely buy fleet and rental buying.

vtecintegra, Dec 5, 10:25pm
Europe isn't reflective of the world market either

mm12345, Dec 5, 10:43pm
US September sales:
Toyota (excl Lexus) 162,000
VW (excl Audi etc) 26,000

Anyway, probably need to wait for October/November sales figures to see what impact the scandal may have had. It will be interesting to see overall diesel vs petrol vs hybrid and EV sales.

It's because NZders aren't chumps like some of the minority would like to have it.
It's obvious some of the half truth's don't sway the majority of the NZ public.

tamarillo, Dec 6, 6:26pm
Are you reading things in to comments on the thread? I'm not seeing excuses made for VW behaviour. This is about how they've handled it and the ongoing effect it's having, so far.

tamarillo, Dec 6, 6:28pm
Ouch! So VW buyers world wide are chumps? So, as someone who doesn't like toyotas ( like many in the world) what can I accuse Toyota buyers of being?

vtecintegra, Dec 6, 6:35pm
Depends on the model and market.

A diesel Golf may make perfect sense in the UK but here in NZ? Not so much. A petrol one stacks up okay though.

ema1, Jul 19, 12:36pm
You said it directly not me fella,go read my post again, where did I mention anything saying VW buyers being chumps per say? I didn't even mention that VW buyers were chumps and notice I wasn't referring to "world wide" either I was merely sticking up for the average NZder including companies & corporates saying they aren't chumps and the majority that made the choice to own non Euro cars and for good reason Hmmmm, now why is that the case then eh?
All makes have their detractors and some Euro's don't always make sense when there are more viable Non Euro options out there in this country that the sales figures/percentages/vehicle numbers have proven, that you simply can't deny. fact.
