Battery - VW Bora (Wellington)

Hi all - can anyone advise where to get a battery? Family have rang Marshall Batteries and Beaurepaires and the latter were cheaper for $184 with an Exide battery.

Thanks.

That sounds cheap. Last weekend I got a battery for my mk5 Golf for $199 from Repco for $200. That was a Repco brand 500 CCA maintenance free battery with a 36month warranty and with the 20% discount special on at the time.

What size code is the battery?

I bought one from The Warehouse the other week. Exide Endurance, 600CCA, $135 or so during a 20%-off promotion. Size 55D23.

Don't recall size. Marshall was $230.

Pretty sure it will be a DIN 55 L

What size engine is in the Bora OP?

Currently AC DELCO 500 crank hours, 99 reserve, 60 amp hours. 2l auto. 2004. Only number. Dk 83061. Sides are covered up.

$184 for a DIN55L Exide sounds really good to me. Just make sure it really is a DIN55L before handing over the cash.

Just out of interest. Why is it necessary for a DIN55L? .

I just had a look on my trade supplier and they want $375 + GST for a DIN55LAGM Century Battery.

What's so good about them?

When I typed DIN55L into their site they also came up with a DIN53ZLMF

The one you're looking at is the expensive severe duty battery with 640CCA capacity. You probably need it for starting in cold South Island winters.

There is also a standard battery of around 500CCA for cheaper.

Of course you need a battery of the general shape as the DIN55L with its recessed terminals and flared base with distinctive cutouts or it won't fit nicely and bolt into the Volkswagen's battery box.

the din55AGM is an absorbant glass mat battery which are better made than standard batteries, thats why they are more expensive, however they dont like being drained down and need specail charging if they do.
