Car seat won’t lock into place

The driver seat won’t lock into place when you change position to move it forward. It just slides back and forth as you are driving. How do you fix this?

The spring is broken. push the lever down.

It can’t do down. It’s a VW Golf and you pull it up to release, but it won’t go down. Where can you get a new spring and how easy are they to replace?

Jiggle the seat forward and back while pushing the lever down. when the pins line up with the holes it'll go down. it went up, so it'll go down.

Have a good look underneath, the mechanism may just have something stuck in it or need lubricating. Don't be afraid to unbolt the seat (just 4 bolts) to tip it up and have a good look at it. If it has airbags and/or a pressure sensor in the seat be aware there will be a wiring connector. Just leave this connected you should have room to tilt the seat for a good look. If you do disconnect it, undo the battery half an hour before doing so and leave it disconnected until the seat is back in place.
