With common mods of the day, quite a few could, (ad if not 300, then close enough!) plenty of sportsbike riders love having race - oriented mods on their bikes, so lots of road going rides are significantly faster than stock.

I was on a 98 Fireblade 'in the day' until discovering the Blackbirds and rode them for the next decade. At the time I was contracting to one of the major NZ Motorcycle distributors and had the opportunity to be involved in running and participating in many sponsored track days, trail rides, etc.; i.e. they were great days!

One thing I discovered was set of loud pipes and some racing decals had little effect on overall performance.

I agree, but plenty of folk do a shitload more than some pipes!

most of my bikes have been fairly heavily modified for performance. The cheap price of bikes makes for very cost effective performance, even if you throw another 5-6k at them after you buy them.

whether the cops actually saw 300 on their detection devices is debatable, but I have zero doubt that there are plenty of bikes capable of that kind of speed on the road.

In 1998?

sr2, Jun 7, 8:35am
Obviously (you're stating the obvious), but we're still waiting for you to answer the question, what 1998 sports bikes could pull 300 Km/hr in stock form?

tshop, Jun 7, 8:38am
Actually wasn't gonna post it but I just witnessed a fleeing driver as I was coming back from getting the shopping he got spun around on a negative camber corner, cop nudged the car & it stopped facing the other way in the middle of the road, it was all over in 500M. gutted I didn't get it for youtube!.

I was expecting an informed reply from you, not a link to Wiki?

Edited to say: no offence intended but how old are you?

sr2, Jun 7, 10:19am
Another spring chicken keyboard warrior, I should have guessed!

intrade, Jun 7, 6:58pm
So does that mean that speed actuarly does not kill?
who would have guessed that huh. i sometimes wonder if the revenue gathering thugs beleave there own crap they talk.

pauldw, Jun 7, 7:30pm
Dompost this morning "towards Upper Hutt where they were clocked by a stationary patrol car at 247kmh." The "more than 300km/h" is just speculation.

sr2, Jun 7, 7:53pm
LOL, I sat my bike licence in 1970 on a 58 T100.

trogedon, Jun 7, 8:06pm
You're not worthy of respect. Disdain? Yes.

trogedon, Jun 8, 12:47am
You keep proving it.

emd-253, Jun 8, 12:50am
I ask again, when is it "safe" to travel at those speeds on a public road?

cjohnw, Jun 8, 1:08am
Please add me to that disdain list. Thanks.

trogedon, Jun 8, 1:59am
You keep responding to it so that means you do. You also keep responding to other people who type likewise in other forums.

cjohnw, Jun 8, 2:13am
Infantile.

daves01, Jun 8, 2:30am
In theory that is possible but what you also need is more power as you need extra power to overcome the higher drag resistance, or better aerodynamics.

emd-253, Jun 8, 2:37am
40yrs, and still alive, with a "ddddddddouble ton badge on your jacket"!
Wow! you must be a real Hero to the other Boy's club members.
All together now!
"If there's one fing that i like it's a burn up on me bike wif me double ton badge up front where I like"

beno, Jun 8, 2:47am
its not "safe" to travel at any speed on a road. its about probability. my bike does 243kph but i only go that fast when the probability of injury or death is low.car drivers are not the same as they have multiple safety systems to keep them safe. and lets not get started talking about Audi drivers.

emd-253, Jun 8, 2:57am
More "Boys Club" Logic.

desmodave, Jun 8, 3:10am
Only way the police can stop ya quick is by doing a u turn in front of ya .

cjohnw, Jun 8, 3:12am
I Now understand why a friend of our family who is a trauma nurse calls motorbikes, “donor bikes”.

apollo11, Jun 8, 3:21am
Yep, I'm a donor. My age (mid 40's) and my bike are probably incompatible. Should probably get myself something a bit more sedate lol.

beno, Jun 8, 3:43am
All bikies are thrill seekers. thats why we all ride. its the threat of danger, wind in your hair freedom etc etc. and yes. speed is part of it. Anyone who has travelled very fast in either a car or on a bike will confirm that its a big thrill to do so. I guess parachuting, diving, or any dangerous pursuits have similar outcomes
