Just on TV news. Took 6 weeks to rack them up from the camera's.

Lots of slow learners.

Lots of non learners and lots that are oblivious, 2 speeds=fast and faster is how they drive up there. Rip shit and bust impatient mentality up there is proven out of hand completely, that won't change anytime soon. They haven't got a clue what speed limit signs are for up there, perhaps just a pretty splash of colour is about it. What does 80 in a red circle mean. duh ? I've got no sympathy for them, they only have themselves to blame. simple as that, long may it continue, aw hey that's right . it will guaranteed ! No doub't lots of the culprits will be recidivist repeat speeders. another good reason to use public transport, it just costs the cost of a bus fare . that's it. lots of incentive there I would have thought ! Bit like you cant change a Leopards spots, perhaps they have big incomes and have taken speeding fines into account. who cares . I don't.

Why only 80 on a brand spanking new motorway with a short tunnel? Have they designed it wrong, and are hiding in embarrassment, bearing in mind NZ always does public works on the cheap.?

Doesn't matter 80 is 80 and if the revenue builds up the way it appears to have done and likely to continue doing . long may it do so. there are no excuses IMO but no doub't there will be plenty, huh . we already have one of those. Predictable . folks not accepting the speed limits and have to blame it all on design or anything else, that is typical of the current crop of impatient know it all bugger everyone else drivers we have now. I couldn't care less . I don't live there. life goes on, speed limits will forever be exceeded . it's a vicious cycle and it flabbergasts me just how damn quick the fine revenue has mounted up in that one small stretch of roadway. Frankly it's proving to be a damn good earner for the authorities concerned. good luck to them. go build more of them eh?

i Fully Agree

As has already been pointed out to you, 80km is a fairly standard tunnel speed in many countries. As usual, facts just seem to get in the way of your moaning. How inconvenient for you!
intrade,

i always drive 80 in the tunnel befor the harbour bridge just in case some pigs are abouts. ah i mean revenue gatherers. Are you really just a casualobserver . ? for a secound i was thinking 1ml was meaning 1 milli liter. for casual observation.
trogedon,

80kph is an ideal speed for it. Most of the NW around it is that speed. I used it for the first time on Friday. Within a few minutes we were out at Mt Roskill (I could smell the curries!).

No "pigs" there. Its not farm land

It's been proven that the safest speed for a road is the "natural" average speed. When you get this sort of carryon it's either out of complete and utter ignorance (in which case it should be instant dismissal for those involved) or it's being exploited as a revenue gatherer.
Same goes for the SH2 "safer speed zones" nothing but revenue gathering. If the road isn't up to 100km/h then fix it. Simple as that.

Smiles and waves at fixit and intrade . haha
Although on reflection I think big words like pessimist may be beyond the limited vocabulary of intrade . given that every one of his posts are rants about govt thugs

Can call it a toll. Tauranga still the highest city tolled in NZ.

Either contribute something meaningful or go away purplegoat. Too many trolls in motoring already.

Oh yes we couldn’t have such a thread without ol jazzman wading in , So tell me jazz man why is it that almost evey western country has similiar reduced speed limits in such tunnels . but of course a expert like you would know that already
But of course the experts on here are all superior drivers with reflexes and reactions of a F1 Driver .

Spose the offenders drive at 70 in a 50 to I guess? makes sense if they are blasting through it at 100. wonder what the average catch speed was/is. While I accept changing speeds from 100 to 50 or whatever limit one is changing to may be challenge for some what I do like is when they have 50kph zone 150m ahead signs. Gives you that slowing down area before having to do 50, kinda works better I reckon.
purplegoat,
Oct 17, 6:59am
Agreed , I do many long distance intercity trips and the small towns with no 70 buffer zone require a different approach , you can’t just flick the cruise off 200 mts prior and coast in as you won’t have scrubbed enough speed off before the 50 k zone .

He’s not a Troll. It’s a tunnel not a bridge!
