You didnt like what we had before, what are you options.

toyboy3, Jun 22, 8:08pm
Speaking for your overweight self ?

franc123, Jun 22, 8:14pm
Yep right this Te Huia farce is working real well isnt it. Govt rubber stamped operation of 40yo diesel locomotive towing a train 4 times a day with an average ridership of 37. Yet those of us who drive older cars are evil polluters who should be taxed into oblivion to pay for hugely subsidised services nobody wants because theyre too slow and expensive.

franc123, Jun 22, 8:18pm
She'd be chucked in a looney bin if deported back to the US. Only here because we give these nutbars a platform to expose themselves.

skiff1, Jun 22, 8:38pm
your understanding of how our taxation system works is pretty poor. The fee is a tax deductible expense. So if I was going to pay tax on income (profit) of $10000, and purchase a ute including an extra tax of $3000, I will now pay tax on $7000. If my rate is say %30, I will pay $900 less income tax for the privilege of paying the $3000 new car punishment tax.
Also, if I don’t make a profit, there is no income tax liability, so paying the envy tax confers no reduction in income tax liability.

skiff1, Jun 22, 8:41pm
Also, if I was say a builder on wages, it isn’t a tax deductible expense as I can’t claim deductions against mileage paid by my boss.

tygertung, Jun 22, 9:10pm
If you are a builder on wages, you don't need to supply your own work vehicle.

cjohnw, Jun 22, 9:23pm
What?
Our builder has 4 qualified builders and two apprentices, all have their own transport.

trogedon, Jun 22, 9:31pm
You have no reasonable arguments against her / Greens policies so all you can do is attempt insults.

3tomany, Jun 22, 9:38pm
Like this one. It would be cheaper to helicopter all the passengers than run the train. LMFAO.

nice_lady, Jun 22, 9:49pm
What ? you're expected to walk to work from your house or take public transport and somehow carry all your tools ? Or what ? The boss will run around picking up all his builders every day ? Good luck with that .

tygertung, Jun 22, 10:44pm
Cargo bike.

tygertung, Jun 22, 10:44pm
But usually builders will turn up in a work van, owned by the company.

jezabell, Jun 22, 11:08pm
How do they get to the yard to be picked up?
You are really living in lala land.

3tomany, Jun 22, 11:11pm
Never seen that unless they need to pick up immigrant workers from accommodation.

tygertung, Jun 22, 11:19pm
No, I mean the builders go to the builders yard by whatever means of personal transport they like, then they jump in a company van and go to the worksite.

Look here:

https://waghornbuilders.co.nz/about/#community

See the picture at the top? There is a whole bunch of company vans.

Same as with electricians, plumbers, painters, plasterers etc. They just use a work van.

Different story if you are a contractor of course, but then you just claim tax on it.

cjohnw, Jun 22, 11:22pm
Yeah nah!
You are incorrect from my observations.
We live in a subdivision which is still under major house construction.
Nearly all the well known home builders are building here.
You name it, they are building houses here.
Not one that I have seen arrive in some form of combined company transport with all the builders on board.
The project manager/owner may have a Ute with the company name on the side but it certainly isn’t to ferry workers around.
At times on site there can be up to five individual vehicles.

nice_lady, Jun 22, 11:26pm
Yeah and who pays the tax in the end? The customer. You and I. That's taxing the population by stealth.

And I'd suggest that not ALL builders arrive onsite in some company owned van. It could be quite a P.I.T.A as they'd possibly have to transfer their tools all the time from one vehicle to another and that could be a nightmare.

3tomany, Jun 22, 11:35pm
None of those are passenger vans and my guess is most of the tradies that work for them take the van or ute home.

alowishes, Jun 22, 11:41pm
Normally they seem to at best only have two people inside, often it’s only been the driver - the rest of the vans interior seems to be chocka with tools and trade items.

3tomany, Jun 22, 11:48pm
If they do not take them home i bet they race to work so the first three in the gate get an XR8 for the day.

socram, Jun 23, 12:44am
So, if everyone forms a company and claims for an office at home and does less than 80% of work for one company, and/or puts some income through the books - even sales from TM, registers for GST, buys any vehicle, uses it only for work, even a Ferrari, all is sweet?

The majority of tradies are self employed. Even #1 grandson when an apprentice, was self employed, and now as qualified builder, is still self-employed.

skiff1, Jun 23, 1:06am
would you take the bus to work with $5000 worth of tools? That weigh 1/2 a tonne? I know of a number of tradies on wages who have their own ute and their boss pays them mileage. Its very common so you can a) drive straight from home to the site, and b) not have to shift personal gear from your work ute to your own vehicle after work and at weekends.

skiff1, Jun 23, 1:09am
I note the steadfast ignoring of the fact that tax deductible doesn’t equal free.

skiff1, Jun 23, 1:10am
no, because the idea that tax deductible means free is nonsense. I get that you are being satirical, but that unfortunately is the foolish argument being peddled.
