Yep tax deductible. Hmm. Let's see. In order to be able to deduct any expense from the tax you're paying you must first EARN. Now, if suddenly the Govt makes you pay some new, extra, 'fee' shall we call it, then who's REALLY going to pay that?
Your customers. Other taxpayers. It's a tax of the whole population by stealth.

Makes perfect sense, in the weather we've had lately.

I have to mute the TV when she appears. I'm glad she thinks it's a "small percentage". I suppose I would too if I was earning an MP's wage. Stupid woman.

Bike, that's what I do, well an electric cargo bike. Ideal for carrying moderate loads.
Or Scooter, that's what my wife often does.

Why can't people have freedom of choice?
trogedon,

Why can't people see what's least harmful for the Environment and NZ?
tygertung,

They can, but expect to pay more if it is polluting the air, land, rivers and sea.

In your words you are a "special case" There must be thousands of special cases. One size fits all according to you and your ilk.
bill1451,
Jun 23, 3:55am
Ahh but here is another "special case"
tygertung,
Jun 23, 3:56am
No, I never said one size fits all.
I am a special case though. I don't have a lot of money so can't really afford to drive a car around all the time, besides driving cars is really inconvenient.

There, fixed it for you!
socram,

We know that tax deductible doesn't mean free, but buying a vehicle and NOT being able to claim for it, or any of the running costs, or the GST, is a lot more expensive!
nice_lady,
Jun 23, 4:56am
Hmmm. pay more. Lot of your minimum wage. To get to work in, for you, the only practical way. You ICE car. It's all you have currently and you can't afford to buy even p.o.s used EV.
FFS. Punish the poor. Why not. They're a good, easy target.
tygertung,
Jun 23, 5:19am
No, it is only the double cab utes which are being taxed more.
And not everyone lives so many hundreds of kilometres from work which they need a car or motorbike to get there.
hound31,
Jun 23, 5:23am
It's personal choice, can you not grasp that? I don't want to bike, I don't like bikes and have no desire to pedal away. I like my car, and no I don't want to car pool, I like my own space. I have been green in other ways for a long time, even before it became fashionable and the zealots came on board, but the likes of Gentner will have to prise my car from my cold dead hands before I will give it up.

Try and get from say Beachhaven (North Shore) to Railside Rd (Henderson) - the outer end by 7:15am, for four hour's paid work, then to East Tamaki by 1pm for another 4 hours paid work and back to Beachhaven, only using public transport.
What the Genter's of this world just cannot grasp is that not all car users are commuters travelling into the same CBD location, at the same time, every day. Sure many do, but many more do not, as less than 40% of the traffic heading from the north shore, is going into the CBD. So where are the remainder going and how?
The answer is they haven't a clue as they have never done an O & D survey - ever.

They are virtue signalling hypocrites with policies that actually don't achieve their aims. Absolutely everything they propose involves things costing society more money, I challenge you to prove otherwise, they're more interested in manipulation and control than the environment, oh and of course legalising the dope. If this individual has that many environmental concerns why is she not preaching her virtues in the USA, China, India or Europe? Why is her Australian colleague not protesting mining in his native Queensland? No they're both here attempting to bully a nation that is responsible for a miniscule amount of global emissions because a mere 7 in 100 voters give them a platform to do so.

you need to do some fact checking
john1623,
Jun 23, 5:49am
So what is the point of it. It compares with the wood fire episode where you cant turn them down because they smoke, but you burn twice as much wood and create twice as much polluting gases.
kazbanz,
Jun 23, 5:50am
l personally wish they would stand up and admit they NEED to tax us all to pay the massive debts they are building up
nice_lady,
Jun 23, 5:53am
Well actually EVERY ICE driver will be taxed more. Petrol tax right ? It's going to go UP and UP and UP. So what You said is incorrect. And then yeah we dont' live 'hundreds of Kms from work' but Hubby NEEDS a car to travel to and from work. He's not going to be riding an Ebike anytime soon or a motorbike. The E-bike would be FAR too slow for his callouts, and an Electric motorbike - nah. Too damn unsafe on todays roads. Motorbikes are OUT. And you will find there are a MAJORITY of car driving commuters who are in this position. Let me repeat that - a MAJORITY. So yeah you and our fantastic Govt expect us to buy EV's ? F*ck NO. I'm not buying some used up P.O.S which has a deteriorating battery. And I"m not buying an new one either. So now what ? Me, us and many many others.

Withh you all the way there Nice-lady,, this govt has their rose coloured glasses on full tint, and their heads so far up their chuffs they,ve lost touch with how "real PEOPLE live, what % of the driving public can affored an $80000 tesla even with discount.
