How practical would it be for a tradie to replace his Toyota hiace with a tesla,
Dont think he,d fit his tools in that, and a lot of tradies tow tool trailers, dont see towbars on EV,S

richardmayes, Jun 23, 10:58pm
New Zealand Railways DF-T; 95 tonnes, 126 litre V12 turbo diesel, 2400 horsepower.

franc123, Jun 23, 11:47pm
Thanks I'm well aware of what a DF is. It would be a bit of a different story if the line was electrified from Te Rapa to Papakura. But its not.

tygertung, Jun 24, 1:08am
Bring back the Napier Deltic.

sr2, Jun 24, 2:11am
Yes, yes, yes!
Never seen one running in the flesh but the thought of an 18 cylinder supercharged, opposed piston 2 stroke makes me go tingly all over.

I wonder if one would fit in my boat?

framtech, Jun 25, 8:25am
can your bike tow my 3.5 ton trailer over the Napier taupo highway with the digger on it and then zip down to the building supplier and pick up a load of gib board.
The only ones who are going to pay for these greenie taxes is you the consumer and if I know you are a greenie, I will add 10% profit on the bill for cramping my lifestyle. (quote bob the builder - Can he do it - yes he can)

tygertung, Jun 25, 6:20pm
If you are a builder, would you use the same tool for every task, or use the right tool for the job?

nice_lady, Jun 25, 7:08pm
If you are a builder you'd take a LOT of tools to the job. Some electric bike is NOT going to supply you with enough carrying capacity nor is it going to give you secure storage .

socram, Jun 25, 8:08pm
My wife is a competitive ballroom/latin dancer.

Somehow, I can't see her and her over 70's friends using an electric bike:

a) wearing a ball gown and with hair all done up
b) to cross the harbour bridge
c) to return after midnight when competitions have finished
d) to carry other outfits, shoes, make up etc.

When are people going to get it into their thick heads that public transport is expensive, slow, inconvenient and does not service 80% of the population for their multiple and complex needs, 24/7?

Some haven't yet realised that we no longer live and work in a small village, close to all work, when 90% of the menfolk worked on the land or down t'pit; most of the womenfolk were housewives and mothers - or worked in a small local factory.

The only local sports options were football and netball and the only local 'entertainment' was either at the village hall or the pub.

This isn't the 18th century and like it or lump it, we are mobile and travel wise, locally and internationally.

kateley, Jun 25, 8:14pm
you forgot to add 'in the pouring rain' socram

tygertung, Jun 25, 8:49pm
Exactly and transport is not a one size fits all affair. Not everyone has to be using the same type of vehicle. Just because one person needs to use a big truck to tow a 3.5T digger doesn't mean that everyone has to drive big trucks,

tygertung, Jun 25, 8:53pm
Don't worry, you can use more than one mode of transport.

I usually bike, but might use the car for travelling long distance, or when towing a trailer with heavy building supplies, or towing a boat, or going ballroom dancing (not really, I don't partake in ballroom dancing).

Some places people only use public transport as they are too populous to drive a car. Take London for example, not many people drive there. But every locality's and every person's situation is different.

kateley, Jun 25, 9:22pm
Im glad you have finally acknowledged that not every one's situation is the same as yours.
not everybody (I would almost go as far as saying 'not many people') can afford to buy, maintain, insure and register a variety of different vehicles for the many different activities they undertake.

kateley, Jun 25, 9:26pm
Once the govt has been allowed to dictate what sort of vehicle we are allowed to use depending on what 'legitimate' reasons we have, will the next step be to dictate what sort of house we live it?
A simple solution to the housing crisis. Will you only be allowed to own a house that has the correct number of bedrooms according to your family size. And location, too? You must live within a certain distance of your employment?

alowishes, Jun 25, 11:16pm
Or icy/snowy roads.

nice_lady, Jun 26, 12:01am
Please pass this knowledge on to our 'Green/Woke/Virtue Signalling' MP's !

kacy5, Jun 26, 12:43am
A family member works for them and has a van supplied which he takes home. As he lives some miles from their yard and works all over the countryside it would be stupid to drive to the yard then backtrack to the job he's working on. It's packed full of tools and supplies but there is room for a passenger as he has it for personal use---within reason.

franc123, Jun 26, 12:57am
It is yes. As I said in the other thread there is absolutely no limits on the control that the Green party want over your day to day life.

socram, Jun 26, 1:15am
Maybe the Greens just want us to sit at home and vegetate when we've finished work or have retired? Sorry, but we'll be active and mobile just as long as the powers that be allow us to keep our driving licences.

Just remember if you use a taxi or Uber to come out to your backwoods dwelling and back again, it is grossly efficient as it means twice as many journeys and half with just a driver.

What is the true cost (including vehicle and capital overheads), of a double decker bus, single decker, train etc., full to the brim for maybe 4 hours a day, 5 days a week in one direction only, (less holidays, staff shortages and strikes) and running empty or very nearly, if at all, for the remainder of the week?

Put in a factory or productive environment, your high cost capital equipment is only at its best if running 7 days a week, with a shift system to man it 24 hours a day.

Split shifts for bus drivers is a major reason why people aren't exactly queuing up to drive them as it isn't just about a miserable hourly rate.

sr2, Jun 26, 1:31am
OOPS. that's not one of those dirty polluting utes our PC goddess of fertility, cultural sensitivity and bespokeness is clambering out of?

tygertung, Jun 26, 2:09am
You sound very woke. What is the true cost (including vehicle and capital overheads) of a double cab ute considering the typical under usage over a 24 hour period?

tygertung, Jun 26, 2:16am
All you woke snowflakes seem very scared that someone is going to come and take your crutch of a double cab ute away from you. Well don't be scared, no one is taking anything away. It is just in the future that there will be a change of what manufacturers are offering. It isn't like the entire vehicle fleet of the country is going to change overnight.

ascotbks, Jun 26, 3:36am
love to know from wellington city council the cost and how many of the electric buses purchased in last couple of years are actually used. ive never seen one with passengers only driving very slowly from garage in rongotai road to bus barns. most are stored either in barns or at rongotai road at back of airport

ascotbks, Jun 26, 3:43am
talk about snowflakes. thats a laugh. im pretty sure no one is scared. nothing a double cab ute owner can do to fix you jealous types. my advice is if you start saving now then maybe one day you may be able to afford one. pretty sure they come in green on request
