Should be. I was sitting in a narrow road, no easy access past this twit who had no clue and was almost at a 180 alignment, back and forth back and forth never adjusting angle. Gave up and went the long way round after backing out of road.

I feel it demonstrates several vehicle handling skills all at once. not just "parking" as such.

I see VTNZ Frankton are back in the news due to their very high failure rate.
time to find a decent instuctor if you live in the district instead of someone making money. the driving test needs to be harder, not easier, then there will be less idiots on the roads playing with their devices as they have a bit of plastic that says they can operate a car.

And at Tauranga “while it wasn’t a faultless test, he passed”
One would have thought by then his driving would have been perfect? (And maybe the Tauranga tester was actually slack as opposed to the previous testers being harsh?) Who knows.

we have 4 children who all have their drivers licenses, the first 3 had driving instructors from aa teach them and all failed their restricted on the first try, the fourth one i trained myself because i thought why are we wasting money on lessons when they don't pass, and yes you guessed it she passed first go.

Its the old story, bureaucrats are arseholes and the more these selfish retards run our country the more problems. Ive been driving since 1972, was trained by driving instructor, test for car, motorbike all taken by MOT and later HT by police. you learn by experience. I follow people and 50% of those drivers can't drive, you can tell straight away (braking, road position, speed, timing) and how the road toll is so low is beyond me, most of them I wouldn't let steer a pram. If I applied the skill of a lot of todays drivers as a teen- I would have been killed in the 70's. The only thing saving their backsides is traction control etc. I watch them on a wet night on say the Napier taupo road or the roads around kiaora, white knuckle steerers with one headlight out, thinking they are at least lewis hamilton in their 1999 SUV's doing speeds linking one potential crash to another, we were doing faster speeds in the 1970's with clapped out old cortinas on 100mm crossply tires with shitty brakes with 1/3 of the HP. The answer to a low road toll is better road surfaces, drug and alcohol testing, keeping left, getting involved in motorsport or advanced driving schools, learning to concentrate for long periods of time, clean window screens and generally taking an interest on the mechanics and physics of vehicles. Passing a state driving test is a lessen in compliance with no lateral thinking and god save the family who take to the open roads with a overloaded car full of screaming brats once a year.

Be interesting to see if you could pass a test after nearly 50 years many rules have changed .

How can that be the fault of the driver. The fatarse tester should carry an extension belt.

You start out arguing one angle then reverse directions twice. How would you propose the testing process be carried out? And who would run it?

Personally I would really like it if learner drivers had to go to a driving school like the theme park we had many moons ago called Footrot flats. They had what were in reality golf buggies but set up as automatic cars. There was a suburban street complex set up with roundabouts, give ways, Stop signs and traffic lights. Max speed was 20-30km/h I'd take it further by having a go kart track and a skid track so they could learn higher speed handling skills and handling in slippery conditions. I know I'm living in a dream world but to me its insane that someone with a learners permit. (learners licence0 can buy a 500hp weapon and drive it legally with zero driving experience.

The way it used to be, sit a test on the road rules and a quick drive around the block with a cop and a L plate No mates and home by 10 etc) for 6 months, learn by experience. heavy fines for shit driving on a L plate. One thing that needs changing is people driving for years on an restricted, restricted should only last for 1 year.
