Bring back the two strokes

These four stroke motorcycles these days are terrible. Bring back the two stroke.

You can't beat that low down torque and the rush of power as the engine comes into the most efficient area of the rev range.

And the sound of ripping fabric as the engine is would right up.

And the light weight and manoeuvrability.

Wonderful.

Plus the nice blue haze

2 stroke petrol will never meet any emission like euro 5 due to petrol slapping the piston you can not pump it all the way like on big marine diesel. only 2 stroke diesel have a chance to come back under fixed RPM load as load changes is what cause diesel to smoke till it corrected the rpm air fuel ratio

tygertung, Jun 23, 3:14am
What about direct fuel injection? I have heard that eliminates the fuel loss issue, however there is only a very short time to inject the fuel.

It could be done, i would be happy to pay extra rego to ride one, they pollute more but it will keep me out of a gas guzzler so less oil reserves used, there is no way in hell i will get into a nissan leaf or by underpowered junk on the market now, the cb 125 twin fourstroke might also be worth looking at rebuilding, it was one of the more impressive small fourstroke bikes i have ridden, and i,me defiantly a twostroke powerband junkie.

gph1961, Jun 23, 3:38am
my wife doesnt like that idea

gunna-1, Jun 23, 3:55am
Women always hate our fun, thats why mgtow is now a thing.

gunna-1, Jun 23, 3:59am
For real though, something needs to happen, i,ve herd of a 250 roadbike that had to be on full throttle the whole time at 100ks, that is not good enough.

tygertung, Jun 23, 4:02am
Not quite true, my wife also rides motorbikes.

I just checked out the "mgtow". Looks like a bad idea. I'm pro women.

Have 2 1978 Yamaha 2 strokes for sale locally at the moment . A Ty250e and a DT175e . I have a little 2008 Aprilia RS125 2 smoker just to keep me on my toes . Was a primo day on the Coast yesterday for taking my Falco for a run over the Bluffs .

desmodave, Jun 23, 5:43pm
My son was wanting to get a scooter as some of his school mates in Nelson have them to get around on . No no and no . No power to get out the way , very lite so get blown around by trucks etc. He wasn't interested in riding the Honda 125 grom during school holidays , its was in the garage for over 2 years before i moved it on . Recently bought an x repo 2001 Primera wagon For my kids to drive when they are home , as well as a dog car. Bloody white dog hair , the gift that keeps giving .

Surprised nobody picked up on that two-strokes are not known for their lowdown torque, four strokes are better at that.

two9s, Jun 23, 7:05pm
Modern off road 2 strokes have a heap more low down grunt than 4 strokes. That's why 99% of dudes riding extreme enduro competitions run 2 strokes

My 1976 550cc 2 stroke streetbike was the absolute weapon against 4 strokes back in its day. Glad I made it past 20yr old on it though!

ronaldo8, Jun 23, 7:06pm
It stuck out like dogs balls immediately, I thought wtf.

Low down torque. Erm, my first 2smoke was a yz465,
"monocross", my last an RD350, neither of those or the four in between had anything remotely resembling "low down torque"

desmodave, Jun 23, 7:24pm
Power valves on 2 smokers changed the game a bit .

ronaldo8, Jun 23, 7:38pm
A bit yeah. an improvement but even an injected two stroke isn't a stump puller, just flattened, more stall proof. Small fast spinning, low inertial mass. Nimble with instant response, you don't get that with what you need for torque, high mass, long stroke

apollo11, Jun 23, 7:46pm
My RZ350 had more low down torque, and equivalent power to my vfr400 at the time.

serf407, Jun 23, 7:51pm
Langen (Wigan, UK) are supposed to be making custom order 2-stroke 250cc road motorcycles that are euro 5 compliant.

Vins, Maranello, Italy - the engine supplier - 250cc 2 stroke dyno run.

Bet you wish you still had it, or do you ?

apollo11, Jun 23, 8:31pm
Unfortunately after I'd finished with it, it wasn't worth much. I'd chopped everything non-essential off, shaved the hell out of the seat, mangled the ports (really didn't know what I was doing) and given it an awful paint job.

wembley1, Jun 23, 9:32pm
With a touch of castor oil in the premix for the racing scent.

tygertung, Jun 23, 9:51pm
Actually 2 strokes have max torque at a lower rpm than 4 strokes, and more of it.

Name any 4 stroke motorbike, and we will compare a 2 stroke of a similar size.

bumfacingdown, Jun 23, 10:27pm
This will be interesting

ronaldo8, Jun 24, 1:25am
lol you brute. I had a cb550 that received similar treatment. Rat bike.

apollo11, Jun 24, 1:36am
Depends on tuning, and whether you are worried about fuel efficiency.
