Give it ten years or so and it won't be "electric car" it will just a car because they will be the norm by then. The ICE owners will be regarded similarly to what classic/vintage car enthusiasts are now beyond that point.

Good choice i would say and remember when buying cars the best 10k you spend is the last 10k.

I don't recall you ever talking about getting a new car besides the Everest.
Did you have a new Mondeo ford boy ?

cjohnw, Jun 26, 9:11pm
Thank you. Yes, the criteria was comfort, slightly higher off the ground than current vehicle, not too large and range.
We looked at the Kia Niro as well and it really was a bit of a toss up between the two.
Went for the Kona based on looks and it was slightly smaller, but there wasn’t much in it.

Nice, I heard you buy from the parent company Hyundai because it is better quality.
A lady I know her mechanic said when she was looking at a Kia the Kia is a second rate vehicle buy the Hyundai so she did. I wouldn't have thought much was in it.

Yip Ford guys drive Fords. The reason Holden is gone is that Holden fans Drive Jap cars.
Edited: just to say the falcon days were expensive but The ford Ranger resale makes them very cheap to own from new. It is only the changeover price you pay.

The difficulty for me was the Kona was the base model, which I would never normally buy. Whereas the Kia was the SX which was the mid placed model and it had a couple of extras included which the Kona didn’t.
But at the end of the day we made the decision for the Kona and are happy with it.

Hey CJ. I'll be looking at ordering a Mercedes EQA in the coming weeks as we've now bought a replacement for our home. Tell me why I should consider a Kona, niro, ioniq as an alternative. Interested in your choice.

cjohnw, Jun 26, 11:28pm
Hey mate, Mercedes looks very nice, - can you get it under that $80k limit?
Our purchase was really based on firstly, our age and current health - so comfort was important.
We were going to wait another year but when the Govt bought in the rebates we started to think that we might as well look now.
Anyhow, the vehicles we considered were the Kona, Niro, Model 3, Peugeot e2008.
The Ioniq5 is interesting but when you look at the specs it is quite a large vehicle as is the upcoming Kia EV6. We wanted to have a smaller vehicle so ruled those out.
The Peugeot e2008 looked really good and is really well priced. With the rebate it is a smidgen over $60k. But does not have the range of the other 3 so it became an option but not the top option.
As I have said, the Tesla is probably the best value at the moment and would be first choice for a lot of buyers. But my wife has had hip surgery and we felt it would be difficult to get in and out of. Current car is a little too low for her as well.
That bought it down to the Kona and the Niro. We drove both, and there was not much in it really. It came down to personal preference.
The Kona looked a bit better to us was a tad smaller and they really just offered us a better trade-in deal than Kia did.
However we may not trade yet as the car is currently on Trademe but Again there is only a small difference.
We took a night or two to sleep on things and discuss it and in the end decided on the Kona.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that mate! my wife also has had hip replaced (and redone because of dislocation) and I have had both knees replaced. We manage to get in/out of the Merc A Class she has at the moment without much problem. The EQA is 100m higher so in/out will be easier again. Unfortunately at $85k I don't think the Merc EQA qualifies for the rebate and I somehow think that the $8.5K rebate isn't going to get her out of a Merc into a Hyundai/Kia. But I'll get her to try a few EVs before buying one. Hope you have a great run out of your Kona.

Thanks mate. Totally understand where you are coming from. Years ago I had a run of buying Commodores and no one would have talked me out of them! Lol.
Let us know what you decide and likewise certainly hope you enjoy it.
Welcome to the revolution!
