Radical ideas time

New zealand bureaucrats seem to like the one law fits all rule, like COF treating a 6 plus ton dump truck like its a big rig, screwing the small landscape business like its mainfreight.
Motorbike ACC should be purchased like road user charges and a label that you can switch to different bikes you own (you carry a years worth of licence)

The Socialist mindset is "pool the money" and "big government" and "big taxes". It encourages a lack of responsibility and cannot reward the careful, honest and hardworking members of society. If the car is owned by you then it is your property just like a house and just like a house the owner should have a standalone agreement with an insurance company. If a person is high risk then they either pay extra or they are unable to get insurance in which case they do not drive. Simple. The effect of this would be seen very fast.

apollo11, Aug 15, 3:49pm
The sector of society who choose not to warrant or register their cars will not bother with insurance any more than they do now. If you take their licenses away they will drive unlicensed. If you fine them they won't pay the fines. If you send them to jail they will cost the taxpayer 50k a year while they learn better burglary tips. All you will be doing is giving insurance companies a captive market (the ones that already buy insurance) to squeeze.

Is that how it works, how about immediate impounding or scrapping cars, no ifs buts or maybes

apollo11, Aug 15, 4:34pm
They will go out and buy another $500 dunger. It's frustrating to see the 'good' 90% of the population increasingly forced into more and more rules, taxes and restrictions because of a feckless minority. It's a shame we can't send the troublemakers to Australia anymore.

bumfacingdown, Aug 15, 4:51pm
Cool, that will tidy up the country of old dungers with out affecting the 90%

apollo11, Aug 15, 4:58pm
Lol. What about rigging speed cameras with ANPR and autocannon? Chuck a video camera in the box and sell the footage to the TV networks.

cattleshed, Aug 15, 5:02pm
That is because of the failed cradle to the grave dependency generated by Socialism. I never said that compulsory car insurance was the only thing. The judicial system too is equally in need for an overhaul. The thing is that NZ needs to gradually move away from the Socialist model. When right policies are implemented across the board and consequences are appropriate then you develop a culture of "crime does not pay" and being a useful member of society does.

bumfacingdown, Aug 15, 5:11pm
" develop a culture of "crime does not pay" and being a useful member of society does."
Where does that work?

apollo11, Aug 15, 5:15pm
It's too late. Too much entitlement and division out there now. And any attempts to take away benefits would be met with cries of 'racist' or 'fascist' or some other 'ist'.

cattleshed, Aug 15, 5:16pm
It could work in NZ.

apollo11, Aug 15, 5:17pm
We need to get a Moon base developed ASAP so we have somewhere to send the new recruits for the tritium mines lol.

cattleshed, Aug 15, 5:19pm
Agreed that it would not happen over night. I would say an incremental plan followed by gradual changes.

apollo11, Aug 15, 5:22pm
I'll get some flack, but I'd love to see 2 year's compulsory service in the military, where kids get taught they aren't the center of the universe and they can survive without a smart phone.

bumfacingdown, Aug 15, 5:27pm
The question was where does it work, so I guess with the lack of answer it would be no where, carry on

Switzerland has a scheme whereby every child in school, perhaps 16 year old, works for one year in a trade eg baker. They are paid a small amount of money each week and at they end the idea is to be employable, understand the value of hard work, thrift, saving, work skill development, independence and so on. As I understand it they have a very low rate of unemployment. The plus for the companies are numerable in Switzerland! It is a win, win!

cattleshed, Aug 15, 5:35pm
So you are saying if something has never been done it can't be done? That doesn't seem radical and that is what the thread is about.

apollo11, Aug 15, 5:42pm
I was thinking more along the lines of getting them after secondary school and before any tertiary study. Get them out of the home and into a scenario where they have hard physical training, extra study or learning to read if reguired, and basically being shown how to behave like a confident adult, as so many parents have failed to do so. And everyone would have to do it, no cushy outs for the children of the wealthy.

cattleshed, Aug 15, 5:52pm
I would have no problem with that. But number one is get rid of Socialism.

bumfacingdown, Aug 15, 6:12pm
Are you confusing that with the three year "apprenticeship" that is far from, say, at a bakery?

framtech, Aug 15, 6:48pm
What hasn't worked since 1986, is cheap imports from china and the destruction of our manufacturing industry, once upon a time, everyone worked, families could survive on one income and everyone played the game. Now the few pay for the many, crime, drugs and gangs are a cancer to our future prosperity and families, relationships and our children are corrupted
Blinded by greenies, race activists and bent bureaucrats using tools like Worksafe, The RMA, firearm bans, Covid 19, One world policies and the United Nations control, our way of life, standard of living and rights are being eroded and now we have a stupid government blowing whats going to be 300 billion dollars in handouts, god save us.

apollo11, Aug 15, 7:05pm
Congrats, you are now living in a dystopian future movie. Playing next is a nuclear winter story lol.

headcat, Aug 15, 7:59pm
All fine, But is not insurance the very evil that you so dislike? Spreading the costs to the many people who do not claim. So very like socialism except that you get to pay some shareholders as well as cover costs.

Might have time to fit in the facial recognition police state in NZ before we are all toasted by nukes.
April 2018 SCMP (South China Morning Post)
"Shenzhen police can now identify drivers using facial recognition surveillance cameras
An expanded traffic surveillance programme in Shenzhen will identify and fine violators, including those driving without a valid license"

In NZ, park up the camera van - with facial recognition equipment (and other recognition software - number plate/ car colour & type etc and speed camera. Beam the details down to the road block.

Facial recognition can 'see through' wigs and sunglasses.

Stop the vehicle at the road block down the road for the superfecta - speeding ticket, lapsed rego/ wof, outstanding fines and driving without a valid licence/ or while disqualified. etc

If the West keeps sinking and China keeps expanding, you might get your dystopia eventually. And anyone who said negative things on forums about the CCP. Have I said how much I love China? (lol)
