Well it's fraud, so maybe no fine and a court date!

short on RUC's, or havent paid - count on a fine 3 times the cost of the RUC's.
Proving that you have wound your speedo back, yep, court, fine, etc. also, remember that if they accuse you of it, its not up to them to "prove" it, you have to prove you havent. seen it happen a few times.

Smarter people would have just disconnected the speedo until warrant time and disconnect again after! They do tend to fall off quite easily on some models and you just hadn't noticed etc.!

dont do it if you own a house or similar the fine is in the 10 tousends of $ and from next jear tax agents will inspect readings from wof places as wof places have to pass correct odometer milage at each wof once that law is passed and then they come with a searchwarrant for car inspection to see if odometer tempering is been found.

If someone has written in to the nzta and dobbed u in and it is obvious that u used to travel on average 18000 km per year but over the past 3 yrs the speedo reads u have only driven around 3000 per year. Do they come and investigate!
Would that mean u pay them back what they estimate u owe them!
