They have to discourage selfish pricks like you somehow. They, or rather 'we' since we're now talking about a public facility, have what seems like a high number of disabled parks in order to ensure that it is likely at any given time that there is always a park available for the legitimately disabled - not you. You can walk.

Just listening to Radio Live in bed, got an early start tomorrow so want something that will put me to sleep.
Kayrn Hay said she got a $45 fine for exceeding two hours in a Tournament car park. Within 21 days of not paying the ticket, they send to a debt collector who added $30 to it.

Interesting. My son has just received the same. $45.00 "fine", $25.00 on top for not paying within 21 days, then one dated 3rd December but delivered 4th Jan demanding payment by the 5th of Jan. or it goes to debt collectors.

Anyone (biker!) know if there's any precedent regarding enforcement of penalties by the likes of Tournament! Surely they would have a greater case to make on the basis of lost earnings, since parking tariffs are their primary business, but equally if they expect payment to the minute, the reasonable course would be to use a controlled and timed ticket and gate system like many car parks do anyway. If they by their inaction simply allow people to park "over time" on their land, do they have any real leg to stand on!

A good cordless drill with a 1/4" drill bit fixes a clamp.

Whilst we on at the paid systems, I drove into a city centre Wilson Park a few year ago. To speed up the system, the entry gate was manned early in the morning on an Early Bird parking deal and a nice lady took my money, wished me a nice day and gave me a ticket, which as usual I put in my wallet.
As far as I am concerned, it is the height of stupidity to leave a pre-paid ticket on the dash in a secure car park.
Returned several hours later, in a hire van from the same car park (Avis) with a pile of student assignments and my brief case and a streaming cold, to find the car had been towed away. Ticket wasn't displayed, though you couldn't get in early without paying!
No signs to say where the tow yard was (in the days before mobile phones) and Avis wouldn't let me use their 'phone (even though I'd just returned their 10 seater van!).
No internal notices to say that you had to display your ticket and the only external one was on a staircase that I didn't use initially as I went out in a hired vehicle.
Haven't used Avis or a Wilson Park since, nor will I in the future.

I haven't read the thread but I got a ticket also, from Westfiled Lower Hutt. the following events happened. Jun /2010 parked past time limit. (but I never saw a ticket on the car) Jun -letter with same date as infringement sent to my address $45. Jul- supposedly a copy of the ticket (as I requested), unless the tickets are a huge A4 piece of paper then I don't think this is copy of the ticket. There is no officer or officer remarks in the given space. This was accompanied by a letter sayingto pay up and the notice stands. Jul- 21 day payment expired so was sent letter for fine of $65. Aug - Credit consultants debt services advising debt is now $88.91. Theclient is Wilson Parking. Sep - Credit consultants reducing debt to $65 if I pay. Sep - Jan 2011 - I haven't paid and I haven't heard a thing, and they don't clamp or tow my car when I have parked there since.
Thanks to biker69 posting a link disputing whether they have the legal rights to enforce this notice, I didn't pay, plus other personal reasons. They have not continued to enforce this debt. Maybe they will one day, but no news is always good news when it comes to debt collectors. Just my experience, whether you decide to pay or not, that is up to you. BUT ONCE AGAIN - THANKS BIKER69.

The extra penalty $25.00 is a voluntary payment and can be legally ignored - not that the Debt Collecting Agency will ever spell this out on the notice ;)

biker, is it an offence to damage a wheel clamp in removing it!
Its never happened to me, but I hold your opinion on these matters in high regard and would like to be prepared. Keeping a cordless drill in my boot is easy enough to do just in case.
I have been told, if you remove it, it is advisable to take it with you when you leave and claim that it wasn't on there when you drove off!

THe offence is an assault on a person- the car being your person. I also have a go at chalkies for touching my car they have no right- where is the sign that says a moron has the right to chalk your car for the privlegde of parking here- I also cause a loud fuss- get that f .ing mess off my car or I'll call the cops, touch my car and I"ll call the cops- real loudly. They slink off.

remind's me of a time when i did a few deliveries into the mall, i parked in the yellow (oddly shaped) box marked loading zone. Got back and one of the westfield guys told me he was going to clamp my van because i was in a Keep Clear zone. Turns out the loading zone turns into the keep clear zone ad my van was on the keep clear and loading zone. It was all painted in yellow and the keep clear was written on the floor behind the pillar. Though that was a bit stupid. They should mark keep clear zones in red.

I got ticketed in a Westfield mall once, 2 hour restriction but had only been there for just under 1 and half hours when I found a ticket on my windscreen. Went to their service reception and asked to see whomever was in charge of the guys checking the cars in the parks. Told him I was only there for under 90 mins and he didn't believe me. Then I politely told him to check the footage of the security camera that was sitting about 5 metres away from my car and if they could prove I was there for over 2 hours they could double the fine. Never did see the ticket again nor an apology lol

FFS. How does that make sense! You can't park here! But if you do, we're going to make sure you stay here.

I don't shop in the central city any more because of parking costs. I go to suburban malls which are free. If those malls start charging I'll buy online instead.

LOL - so we pay out twice as much in wages.
They should work 9 - 5 and have weekends off.On street Parking at night and weekends should be free and then maybe some of these businesses that are struggling might survive.Fortunately, there are so many places to eat locally where parking at night is free, that it is not an issue for us.
We NEVER go into town to eat or anywhere where we have to pay for parking - ever.
The only parking fees we willingly pay are at the off site airport car parks or if meeting people, maybe at the airport, for as short a time as possible. I can think of better ways of spending my hard earned cash.

Was always free, until in recent years the thieving Auckland council got greedy, and greedier.

You can't expect free parking when there's high demand for it and limited supply. Land is not in abundance and without restrictions it would be chaos.
This thread was about a clearly unreasonable and misleading practice by Westfield, not the general frustrations of parking a vehicle in a city.
