Hi there, I'm planning a contract for a few months in Hauraki Gulf and then a bit more travel, so considering getting a campervan or motorhome.Is it possible/legal have a chemical loo, to freedom camp just about anywhere!If I end up having camp fees on top of initial outlay for the campervan, I might as well hire a cabin . Some councils have bylaws that restrict where you can park up, if so there are DoC campsites ($6 or 7 / night) you can use all over the place, you just have to empty your loo / grey water ONLY into a proper dump station.

I would suggest you head over to http://www.nzmotorhome.co.nz/ for further advice and also consider joining the NZMCA http://www.nzmca.org.nz/ which will open up lots of options for the sort of camping you want to do. If you have a self containment certificate there are lots of options for freedom camping and the association has private camps of their own too.
