vjregal770, Oct 24, 9:18am
Sorry here also.

I've had a car totaled by an uninsured driver, so this kinda hits a nerve.

Truce!

bellky, Oct 24, 9:28am
truce

Insurance is like gambling, they are betting against you that you will not have an accident. They do not get filthy rich by losing.same as a casino. They also pay people in excess of 150k a year to find out why they should not pay you out for your "accident". So if you have the readies and are prepared to back yourself, financially and morally then you do not have to have insurance on your vehicle. When nanny state decides otherwise [and they are responsible, remember, we voted them in there] then it will be compulsary but untill then its up to you which way you gamble, for or against.

and does being a good citizen mean you should have health insurance ! dont want to burden the taxpayer.
And being a good parent/partner mean you should have income protection insurance. life insurance !
Got a pet ! got insurance for that too !

i think i will take a gamble for now, it may come back and bite me in the arse and then you can say i told you so but going on my 26 years of driving history it isn't money well spent. Insurance is just getting to dear

brummoi, Oct 24, 10:53am
26 years of accident free driving doesn't mean you won't rear end and total someone's $50k car tomorrow. You may have 000's in the bank but I'm picking most uninsured drivers don't. 3rd party is cheap as chips and it means the poor sod who is hit doesn't have to make do with $10 pw for 20 years. I presume you'd be ok with such a payment arrangement if you were the innocent party!

what grinds my gears is insurance telling me a a stock 3.3L vh commy is proformance (declined), 3L v6 twin turbo petrol ($1200 pa)is simialr to 2.5L turbo diesel ute ($950 pa)

male_timaru, Oct 24, 11:43am
always insured now - BMW 1992 318i $18 per fortnight! yay cheap insurance at last (used to cost me $120 per month for Lancia) - i love being 37 and in a sensible non turbo car again!

elect70, Oct 24, 11:45am
^^^ shop around . I insureBMW328 s$300 year comprehensive & a Disco for $250 .Bugger tryinggetting ANY moneyfromsolo mum or unemployed, even soft cockcourt wont force themto pay at $10 week if they have nothing .Meanwhile you paid$3g out of your pocket& at $10 week, if they paid , would be nearly 3 years to get repaid . So many out there driving unregistered orwarranted cars .

philltauranga, Oct 24, 3:55pm
A number of trucks on the highway cost in excess of $500,000 excluding the load, imagine being found guilty of causing a accident with that kind of cost and being uninsured. ouch

trader1292, Oct 24, 5:08pm
They are getting ripped then. I got full insurance for $4700 of cover yesterday in christchurch (dosnt cover earthquakes) and it was $657 a year. If people are paying over $500 a year for 3rd party they are fools.

crzyhrse, Oct 24, 5:14pm
The exception rather than the rule.

poppajn, Oct 24, 5:17pm
3rd party should bepart of the rego .

crzyhrse, Oct 24, 5:18pm
With baseless scaremongering scenario conjuring like that, have you ever considered politics!

crzyhrse, Oct 24, 5:20pm
No, it shouldn't. If you're so worried about the 'what if' you can get full cover, but of course as a 'responsible' person you already have that anyway. So what's the problem if a UTP hits you!

crzyhrse, Oct 24, 5:22pm
For some it simply means they've never had a speeding ticket. Even though they've murdered half a dozen letterboxes and done a couple of rear-endings (not the Chirs Carter sort).

mrfxit, Oct 24, 5:25pm
LOL yea agreed

mrfxit, Oct 24, 5:27pm
Need something to scare thesilly buggers in to some common sense

johnf_456, Oct 24, 5:36pm
fire and theft with glass cover! As I said depends on the car and person. Its not over 500 but up there when many get full fr that rate.
