Car Wiring for Tralier hook up

We have an 07 Rav 4 and are looking at putting a tow bar on it.Have just found out that the Rav has LED lights which doubles the cost of the wiring.

Anyone know of a cheaper way of doing it! Or someone that can do it for cheaper than $540 (including tow bar)

why does it double the cost of wiring! have you asked!

Something to do with a wiring harness!Don't know what that means but thats what Toyota have called it.I have checked a couple of other places and the cheapest is $255 just for the wiring.

Your Rav will probably have an wiring system which can detect the additional load of tungsten trailer lights. Go to www.anythingelectronic.co.nz for a Trailer Lighting Interface Part No: VTI. It is essentially an electronic relay which isolates the load of trailer lights from the vehicle lighting system. If you can wire "conventional" trailer lights, you can fit one of these yourself.

Why not put led lights on trailer! Same voltage. N'urries!

Would this work! What would it cost to change standard trailer lights over the LED!Would it mean that i couldn't hook it up to different car that didn't have LED lights then!

LED trailer lights work on any car, and worthwhile fitting. No more changing bulbs nor rusty contacts.
- on TM and Repco etc -about $125 and up.

The ledlights use the same volts as the standard lights on the trailer, did these on a trailer not so long ago.

Correct. The damage to the RAV could cost more than doing it properly now.

You will have no problems wiring in LED lights onto the trailer with a RAV 4 i have done 3 now with no issues.

The wiring harness is unique to that vehicle and gets plugged into the Ravs wiring loom. that is why it costs so much.

until a short on the trailer develops and melts the wiring from front to rear and damages the control unit.
op get the right part may work out cheaper in the long run. Unfortunately these are the costs of simple jobs on late model vehicles.

LED trailer lights work on any car, and worthwhile fitting. No more changing bulbs nor rusty contacts. Same input voltage, much less current draw.
- on TM and Repco etc -about $125 and up.
