Paint work on car Help

My grandaughters 1994Red Honda Intergra has beautiful paintwork always looks so good, that was until a few days ago when she noticed the bonnet had lots of little whitespots like a rash and the fine coating is peeling it seems to be spreading

Is this a sign of the sun and old age and what can be done to protect the roof

If the rest of it is still good, make sure it's sealed with a good quality wax, and try to keep it out of the sun.

Unfortunately the only solution for the bonnet is a repaint.

If it's a Japanese import, often paint repairs made there don't stand up too well in NZ, there's more UV in our light that just kills paint.

There is a small possibility that if you take it to a painter very soon it may be able to be wet sanded and just have the top clear coat re-sprayed on the affected panel.

This would generally be a lot cheaper than a proper full colour match and re-spray. Its not always possible though as often the colour base coats are very thin and won't survive the top being sanded back.

There is a car painter on here called "gunhand" who may be able to give you a more accurate answer on whether thats possible.

Back to the old rough as guts basecoat/clearcoat painter problem again. when is someone going to take up the challenge and sue the painter responsible. there are so many cars around with the same problem and always bad painters are blamed. there must be a hellova lot of bad painters around huh.If you pay 250 bux for a repaint on the bonnet, who's going to gaurantee it and for how long, meanwhile the rest of the car is not far behind in condition so it goes on and on.
