O/T How to courier paint!

friendly_prawn, Jan 7, 3:10am
Sorry I know its off topic but wasnt sure which forum to ask in.
Im sure some of you guys would know though.
I need to courier a 1L tin of paint.
I went to local couriers and they refused. Said not something they do.
So which courier or service do i need to look at to send a tin of paint.
Its nothing flamable. It's a water based paint.
Any advice please!

Tape the fuck out of the lid, put it in a box and tell them its not paint.

Just send it, why do you have to tell them its paint! I see PBT couriers deliver a lot of paint to the paint shop next door to me.

I just took the whole paint can down all taped up and said "whats the best way to send this!"
Then got told to bog off. lol
Yeah it did cross my mind to just drop it in a box and send it with out telling them what it was. And it does sound like the simplest method.
Ok, will do. cheers for that guys.

Put it in a box, go down to your local post shop, and purchase a courier bag off the shelf that the box fits in. Should cost yuo around 10 to 12 bucks.

We use NZ Couriers every day, but you do need to attach a DG form.

DG Form!

Dangerous Goods.
Most reputable couriers are licensed to carry dangerous goods!

no need forDG if it's water based

Yep, had thought about that, but it crossed my mind if they heard the paint slopping around (not a full tin)they might confiscate it. It's needed for a colour match up. Would be a right pain.

im not sure what your liability (if any) would be if it leaked and damaged other freight if you didn't declare what it was. might not be worth the risk.

friendly_prawn, Jan 7, 7:14am
Yep, its only water based.
so will nz couriers take it if they know its paint!
And I dont mind filling out a dg form even if its not needed. As long as it's a simple hassle free way to send it. Might try them first if they'll take it.
cheers for that.

big.b-lil.c, Jan 7, 7:15am
they would have to return it to you if they didn't send it, anything else is theft.

friendly_prawn, Jan 7, 7:16am
actually thats a really good point.
Not that i think it will leak its that well wrapped up with tape.
But might give nz couriers a shot and might ring around a few others. Im guessing they'll be closed tomorrow. Oh well. Only another day.
cheers for all the advice guys.

fp does the tin have a red diamond sort of shape on it with flammable liquid across the middle and the number 3 at the bottom! if not no dg is required. it will most likely be consumer commodity (dangerous goods in limited quantity) again no dg required.

friendly_prawn, Jan 7, 7:23am
Plain empty paint tin bought from paint shop with simple water based acrylic paint that I have put in to it.
cheers big.b-lil.c
