putting the batt supply back on and nut always costs ya skin to lol and btw I have used this method on all models and works some are a bit tighter than others due to engine mount exhaust differences but it has worked for me all mechanics I know remove inlet manifold and spend about six hours doing the job. Next one I do Ill take photos for references to help people

Same place as above, at the bottom! Mate, good luck. Have you kicked the car yet! I have found that doesn't help, but at least you'll be able to see the part that's broken.

yea but luckily missed what I was aiming at & got the tyre instead. Would need to kick hard enough to remove most of the front of the car, but yea . would certainlly be able to see what was busted for sure.

Ahh I see the nut you are trying to get its one of many of nissan's "bastard" bolts,. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Yep for me that bolt would be .coal chisel and FBH about 4 hits and never fxxxken needed again, seen plenty of manifolds with a nut missing and still work just fine.

Cant remove the inlet manifold on the 96 Attessa
Yerp . It's BACK,
With thesurf out of action temporarily, I have had to get my butt back in action & sort out this job. Brand new starter is back in now & just have to finish putting all the crud I HAD removed (in vain) back on again.
Worked out that I can get the starter through a very narrow channel down the side of the motor & out the right hand wheel arch/ steering shaft hole. NOT an easy fit but lots better then having to drop the exhaust (& no hoist). Still had to do my donation of blood & skin samples to Nissan, but the wifes a lot happier that she's going to get her car back later this week (wof/reg & run it for a couple of days 1st) . weather dependant. Lots of obligatory swearing & hiffing of some tools, but that parts done.
(wheel braces DO. fly well when bounced off the concrete)

Apparently theres a few different models of manifolds & yep . I got the 1 with a bolt tucked in behind the oil filter base mount.

You have my sympathy mate; we ran a GTIR race car for a while. I never believed a car could reduce grown men to tears so easily, what a sod of a thing to work on!I had a lot of practice swapping motors and clutches (surprisingly the boxes held up well) but even with a lot of mods to the car and customised tools it just drove you to drink. We once swapped the head with the motor still in the car, you weren??

LOL, funny thread. i remember years ago trying to do the clutch on the old man's chrysler avenger, i was struggling to get the gearbox out due to the firewall being in the way. i found out some time later that what i should have done was slackened off the engine mounts

I'm doing the headgaskets on my maxima. Ye gods it actually got my finger so bad it got infected and swelled up like a balloon.
TIming chain on those things is one of the worst jobs ever.

Been there I did the head in my GTIR while it was still in the car, because no one told me you shouldnt be able to. I have also removed the inlet manifold twice now the second time was to do the clutch master cylinder, no easy task that took 6hrs to do. I wisely did the starter motor bushes while the manifold was off, could clearly see I didnt want to be trying to do that job with every thing elce still in place. I find the best cure for anger when working on the car is to keep the axe and firewood handy evey half hour or so now insted of smashing the car and doing more dammage I go smash the axe into wood but have to do it far enough away from the GTIR that Im not tempted to 'smash the motor a new hole'
