I noticed today that the front side windows are full tinted. While this obviously makes sense as far as security is concerned, I wonder if it is technically legal! Maybe I just have too much time on my hands.

Yes, legal on vans, utes and 4WDs. Not legal on 'MA' cars if my memory serves me right. I'll read the 'bible' tomorrow.

Commercial vehicles are allowed darker tints than the normal 35% restriction that is placed on private passenger vehicles. I think you'll find that they're 5% tints.

I think the front windows on a van still have to play by the 35 percent rule. All other windows behind the drivers seat can be blacked out.
