My cataylic converter was cut out by the previous owner and the warning light stays on as he never got it reset, AA said the car is in top shape so there are no other problems. They said I can take the cable and earth it to the body and it will solve the problem.IS THIS SOMETHING I CAN DO MYSELF. ANYONE ELSE DONE THIS.

If it is that simple, how come the previous owner never did it, rather than trying to sell a car with the Engine Management light on!

It isn't an engine management light, it is only the converter light that is on. means nothing

JC is right. Should also be easy to earth it out and do away with it. I still have a catalytic converter on my old chevand had a similar warning light issue but it was a dirty connection which was an easy fix. The guy who removed your cat should have completed the whole job and got rid of the light. Backyard mechanics doing half a job no doubt
