comes on when going up a long hill like Bombays toward Auckland, but goes out again on it's own when decelerating down the other side. Any Ideas! I realize it might be telling me to avoid Auckland, but maybe it is a temp sensor in the exhaust or something!

Being one of those things it could be one of a multiplicity of problems.Until you get the codes read out of it you are stabbing in the dark even trying to guess.

The engine lamp checks the oxygen sensor and if it comes on when motoring either indicates too rich a mixture or too lean.
