NEW CAR SERVICING

You are missing the point, its VERY simple.

1. Suzuki the manufacturer have made it clear from all sources I have checked that the first service is 15'000km OR 12 months whichever comes FIRST.

2. Suzuki the NZ DEALER are trying to say its 15'000km with no time limit which of course means they won't need to do any where near as many services as Suzuki the manufacturer have stipulatedare required in the 5 years of "free servicing".

In short Suzuki NZ are deviating from what Suzuki the manufacturer have recommended. This is a terrible practice and very concerning for several reasons.

Anyhow, with all due respect to the original poster. New Suzuki Swifts are horribly out dated, over hyped, under featured and over priced marketing gimicks. I strongly suggest you tell them where to go and buy a car that's actually worth what you are paying.

The only argument for buying a Suzuki Swift is the very low depreciation in the first few years. This rely's of course of them staying in "fashion", their maintaining value to date is just a result of heavy marketing and nothing to do with the vehicle actually being anything special.

.and you believed him!

+1
For starters its only synthetic oil that tends to be rated for more than 12 months in some situations and extending beyond 12 months even with synthetic is not standard or generally recommended practice. Then you have to consider that a "service" should not just be an oil change which is a concept lost on many people.

Standard Brake fluid should be changed every two years for starters, so if it wasn't changed at the last 12 month service it should be due now.

There are a whole raft of small things that should be checked at least every 12 months, from the tyre pressure in the spare to visual inspections looking for fluid leaks etc.

cut out the dealership, ive used *&*&*&*here to service my fords til i got to know a mechanic there. Then i offered him cash to do servicing at his home on weekends.I prolly only pay 1/3 of what i used to pay.Does nullify warranty though, but if you are flicking ya cars over regularly, no probs.

You are all chasing a red herring, and in particular jazz is being very mischievous (that's the kindest way to put it)The OP is only referring to ONE Suzuki dealer in Christchurch, who offers free servicing for a period of years - they refer to it as "cost free motoring" and it's been very successful for them and their customers for more than 20 years.(I know the owner)Suzuki New Zealand's recommendations are 15,000kms or 12 months.

This promotion works very well for the local Suzuki dealer, you pay full retail price for the Suzuki and then get 'free' servicing. Which is obviously built into the margin.Works beautifully for the mature market. In fact if they fitted chrome handles to the things they could be dual purpose.

But if you don't get any service until 15000 km and you have low mileage then you are paying for nothing, right! Why aren't they honouring the manufacturer's 12 month recommendation!
What's in it for the customer!

pauloc, Jun 17, 6:15am
Paying for your servicing in advance is what you get.

jmhb51, Jun 17, 6:46am
But if they won't service the car every 12 months as manufacturer recommends - there is NO serviice. Why are customers not complaining!

grangies, Jun 17, 10:41pm
LOL.

It's like you're telling the poor bugger, for contemplating the Suzuki.

""Naughty boy! How dare you consider something so preposterous as a Suzuki Swift!

Now stop being so childish, and get your butt down to the VW agents!""

thejazzpianoma, Jun 17, 11:52pm
I like your wording, I might use that next time.

thejazzpianoma, Jun 17, 11:55pm
EXACTLY!
The thing is Suzuki Swift customers (sorry don't mean to offend here) generally have no clue. If they did they wouldn't be Suzuki Swift customers.

Not sure how you will get on if you buy one, Suzuki are not equipped to deal with people who can think for themselves.

thejazzpianoma, Jun 18, 12:05am
LOL, gee if I am being mischievous what about the dealer!
I am not the one playing fast and loose with the Consumer Guarantees act and the recommendations of the manufacturer.
Let alone the poor and unsuspecting customers who's vehicles are being neglected in the name of a few extra dollars for the dealer.

gingercrush, Jun 18, 12:14am
If you live in Christchurch OP go see Hollands Suzuki. They were absolutely brilliant and we've brought three vehicles from them. They have an awesome record and lots of return customers. Also I got the first 2005 Suzuki Swift from there and it was first serviced after 3, 000 kms.

Mischievous was being VERY polite to someone who actively recommends the sort of trash you do.When do Suzukis / Toyotas / Nissans etc have their door handles fall off, their dashboards develop constant rattles, have their transmissions fail regularly, or all of the other regular failures that Fiats and VWs commonly suffer from!

On the contrary, people who buy reliable, efficient small Japanese cars, that offer proper service backup at reasonable cost, ARE the ones who are thinking (in an un-blinkered state). Why do these cars outsell others by such a number!Because they offer what customers want - ie safe, efficient, reliable and economical motoring.A Swift for example exceeds the thresholds for a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. And compare the resale of a new Corolla / Swift or Civic to any model Fiat or VW.You may be too embarrassed to do so.

thejazzpianoma, Jun 18, 12:19am
No surprises why you get on so well with cheesy dealers who like to swindle the elderly.

countrypete, Jun 18, 12:20am
Name that dealer!

countrypete, Jun 18, 2:06am
Didn't think you would.

ringo2, Jun 18, 2:53am
You mean the cheesy dealers that sell overpriced and overrated Fiats and VWs.Usually called Eurotrash.

grangies, Jun 27, 1:01pm
VAG and FIAT aren't in the Euro-Trash range.

They are both manufacturers that have stood the test of time WORLDWIDE .

FIAT has to compete against Volkswagen .
