Johnspot on with your comments the banks recommend never let card out of your sight so if you do your in breech of your contract, so I guess your claim could or would be refused, My uncle is in sth Akl a lot of pre pay I live in country and fill tank every time , these attendants would not have any security checks and your details could be sent overseas in minutes

If I go to a station and they don't allow me to fill up without prepay (unless it's sole-charge/night-pay at 3am) I take my business elsewhere. I always like to fill my tank and with wildly varying prices, I never know how much that is any more. Hell, most stations won't sell you more than $99 worth of petrol on prepay which is only about 2/3 of a tank!
What pisses me off is when I roll up to a petrol station in the middle of the afternoon, dressed well and in a sports car worth $200k or so and they still want me to pre-pay! Look at what I'm driving, like I'm going to stiff you over for $120 worth of petrol!

What you drive in no way relates to what you have money wise.

Unless its stolen but does give a indication.

Yes, or an indication of huge debt, ive seen people in there expensive machines slip up to the pumps and put $20 in. Or maybe that was just a top up.

Doesn't really mean a heck of a lot there either. Classic but slightly off topic is a car that was pulled up in my street recently for doing a burnout. Car was a very very tidy mid 90's falcon V8, driver around the mid/late 40's & tidy clothes.
Had a chat to the cop after the falcon had left& was told the falcon had NO WOF or REG.(yes got ticketed for that lot)
So . just because it's a nice car/ middle aged driver & well dressed, doesn't always mean they are law abiding all of the time

Hell yes correct, had a few flash car's /drivers "suddenly" have no money on their credit card to pay for the tank full of gas.

More like priorities to some people.

IF . next time you go to get petrol . AND you have the time to check where the cameras are & how many of them are visible, then think again, now adays, theres often half to twice as many again hidden around watching all sorts of odd places & normally fairly good quality images.

Yes some think more of getting the fuel rather then how they are going to pay for it. We. used to get the same sort of con jobs & genuinely desperate/forgot cash/wallets stuff & be offered everything from empty wallets with dead credit cards to spare wheels/ watch's/ rings/ tools/ clothing/ chainsaws & pretty much anything else you can carry in a vehicle as security for fuel. Sometimes they come back & most times not. Stopped doing that fairly quickly & simply put the car off the forecourt & locked it up with us having the keys until it could be paid for. Had some nice cars sitting there some days.

If they were smart they could get the spare, but I don't think petrol stations have a legal right to hold a car "legally" until payment. But I am not a lawyer but perhaps someone else can enlighten us.

I have better things to do than drive out of my way (extra distance) 2 times a week when I can fill up once a week, and save more on distance travelled than what I save by not having a full tank. And by the way, if it's prepay I will go elsewhere.

John. It's a time related choice they make at the time, 1: They could go get some cash 2: they can get someone to come down & pay 3: they can come back the next day or that night & bring payment 4: they can pay the going rates to have a mechanic come down & drain the correct amount of fuel back out, . or towed to the local garage if it's a harder job. OR 5: Do a runner & get nabbed for the driveoff theft.

I asked for the legality behind it, I see you still can't get it johnf_456 yet if you are going to quote me properly. Yes we know you love prepay make sure you thank them.

Same rules as any other shop. if you leave the property with the merchandise without paying for it or making SUITABLE CREDIT arrangements, then it's THEFT
mrfxit,
Jun 8, 6:20pm
Go look up what the laws are for running off with an unpaid product from ANY retail shop
johnf_456,
Jun 8, 6:20pm
Merchandise in a shop is different from a holding a vehicle.
mrfxit,

LOL: but I DID quote your name correctly, can't do it anyway else without editing the quote it's self
There is NO LAW that says I CAN'T call you by your given name (as per YOUR personal profile) Get over it already. ;-)
johnf_456,
Jun 8, 6:25pm
Well its not, most do it because they like to shorten the trademe name and with so many people called john it could be any man and his dog. Don't see anyone using your real name, I searched it once only one or 2 threads came up. So no its my name.
mrfxit,
Jun 8, 6:26pm
NO, if I hold your bag of unpaid for property, how is that different to holding your car. Bag = car . still a container of unpaid for Merchandise
mrfxit,
Jun 8, 6:29pm
Theres quite a few ppl here that know me well having chatted with me over a few years & often call me by my 1st name. Another point is that my Nick is easy to type & doesn't require using the shift key at the beginning & part way through, unlike yours. Get over it already . please.

Ummo no, dog with a bone here, that's why the quote function exists.

Just to keep this all in the same page ;-)
