Looks like something from a flathead Ford. Were they six volt!

I think it may have been the one that Gabriel originally blew.

Or little boy blue, in which case it would be off a Ford lol

mrfxit, May 25, 3:16pm
LOL thanks but no idea.
Remember seeing something like that on the old railcars but can't find any pic's

Thanks for the pointer, spotted this on the way around the net after checking out your link .
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T-A-SPARTON-WORKING-6-VOLT-14-1-2-LONG-HORN-/200609002910!pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2eb53a759e

Now to define the year it was made.
Next after that is to sort out a 12v to 6v stepdown.

Not a Ford car horn, none I have seem anyway. Try it on six volts and see how it hoots. Feel it will be a six volt one.

Of to Jaycar later this week.
Guys there want to test it for amp draw & work out what it's REALLY doing for amps/volts etc.

tmenz, May 26, 8:24am
It will probably draw quite a lot of current - many amps!
Are you able to measure the static resistance with a multimeter - this will give some idea of the peak current draw!

mrfxit, May 30, 8:43am
Amp draw (without power attached) at jaycar peaked at 33 & settled down to about 11 / 13 amps, so would presume something like 10 to 20 amps draw.
Who's got an idea on what to use to drop 12V to 6V with a max 20 amp draw

it be a old foog horn . did you get it to work!
i found the same horn 6 volt in a old boat and the shape and noise it makes is for foog Drooooootttttt sound

What about using an old ign coil ballast resister, 1 of those ceramic 1's like you find on the 70's Valiants. (6V coil/ 12V supply)
Would that do the trick, bearing in mind that it's only for short bursts
