there is a trick to get more out of it but i cant remember how exactly you have to get the wof before the cutoff date to get an extra year that takes it to almost a extra year on top instead of the 6 month only.

You make sure you get the car checked and passed in the few weeks prior to the exact date of the 6th anniversary of its registration., it's then passed for another 12 months.
