I have a 2005 Holden Astra

and the electronic engine management system light keeps coming on. In the manual it saysa system service is required.Can anyone out there let me know what this means and how important is this.( I have recently had my car serviced)

Try holding down the button to the right of the speedo, turn the ignition to ON, hold the button down until the service indicator goes blank.

Unless its a malfunction lamp, not a service light.if that's the case, you will need to go to a dealer or auto sparky to get the fault codes read.

It means
a: you have a problem with your engine and a sensor has detected the fault.
b: a sensor(s) has failed

astras are plagued with electrical problems best bet is to take it to a auto sparky. crank and cam sensors are the most common failure.

I noticed the gauge that tells you the temperature outside stopped working about a month ago,I didnt think it was a big deal.
Holden Dealership/service repairs etc are 5 mins away so I may pop in there.

EGR valve problems are by far the most prevalent on late Astras defiantly followed by cam and crank sensors as Mat says.

This is usually a faulty crank or cam sensor - very common fault with Astra and Vectra's. Need to go to a Holden dealer and have it checked with diagnostic tester.
