AhhhHaaaa ! a cyclist with attitude,like it, ,problem from my point of viewisthat your attitude is the fuel that drives you on; not giving up; biking on,physical recovery! thats Great ;

yOu seem to be an adrenaline junkie ;high risk taker ,and no amount of warnings; suggestions from message board,is going to alter your perceptions (right or wrong)
Of riding your recumblent bike on the highway;

Of course you did not come on here for sympathy,just a bit of publicity for your ride/and charity;
I passed you several times ,on your South Island trip,while en route to Inver and return the back Blenheim;
Have to say i admire your pluck ;strength and determination
Good Luck andGood Wishes;
RegardsKev
;
Oh and by the way ,my sports car has been changed fora 3/4 size II WW Jeep replica ,and pssst ;it has a large, day glow whip antenna on the back;
How ever to date I have notyet been run over, or side swiped, by any cyclist "nutter",riding a recumbant bike !

Sorry but I do not own off road vehicle, haha. If you have a 4wd then you should drive off the road man!

richardmayes, Apr 6, 8:42am
Nice attitude.

***Strikes Veronica St Auto Court off shopping list.***

Hey do you know the bloke in Wellington with the recumbent bike with the streamlined shell! Often see him in Petone in the evenings. He doesn't use an orange flag like you do. What's his story, heard second hand that he is really hard case.

gadgetman, Apr 7, 1:22am
Fact One cyclist on the road slows motorists down much less than a truck or other vehicle.
It is easier to pass me than a truck. How many kilometres you drive behind me! Only place I slow down the vehicles is a one or two way bridge without cycle lane. I cycle on the middle of my lane for safety on the bridges or tunnels.
So stop whining you inpatient drivers and take give me 1.5metres when you pass.

gadgetman, Apr 7, 1:27am
You must be describing a velomobile! I might know him if he is the guy from Wainuiomata! I met a chap who was building one in his garage. I must catch up with him when I am in Wellington, thanks for the tip.

johnf_456, Apr 7, 1:40am
Depends on the road not all roads you can safely give 1.5m unless you want a head on. Play it safe out there, I for one would not do what you do on nz roads. All the best

gadgetman, Apr 7, 1:46am
Once the fuel prices double he may start selling velomobiles, haha.

gadgetman, Apr 7, 1:49am
Ticker tape parade sounds good but where is NW cycle lane!

gadgetman, May 8, 8:15am
Still on the road and now north of Wellington.
My right ear is becoming deaf at this rate of hoots!
I am pretty annoyed with the friendly motorists who greet me just before they pass me.
They must mean well and they are not pushing the horn continuously.
Still that beep beep is pretty noisy as my ears are on the level of the horn and those car horns are pretty noisy when my ear is close to them. My ears are ringing after that.
If you want to greet me I rather see a wave or flashing of hazard lights rather than noisy horn next to my eardrums.

I ride a 90cm wide recumbent trike on the main roads.
I have started a Bluff to Cape Reinga journey on my trike and hope you drivers leave me enough space. Now I am in Southland but soon riding in Otago near Queenstown.
Normally I get enough space but today I was simultaneously overtaken by two vehicles on two lane highway!
Was looking to my rear view mirror and saw a small car overtaking me and then some bast#rd on a white 4WD overtook us both on the same spot! Scary but I managed to show my mid finger.

How often you need to overtake a recumbent trike. You could spare a couple seconds and there are always places to overtake safely.
Share the road, I am also a motorist and drive about 40 000km a year so don't tell me about not contributing to the road user charges.

johnf_456, Dec 18, 9:48am
+1 So true, didn't you know biker it makes it okay if you drive lots paying rego. (sarcasm)

gadgetman, Dec 18, 9:51am
My trike is not a motorcycle! It is human powered vehicle. What is flawed about that!
I keep left as much as I can but need to ride on the sealed part of the road not on the grass. Overtaking a vehicle which is already overtaking on two lane highway is illegal as far as I know.The first car should have kept more distance to me so the 4WD would not have had any space to overtake. Both made a mistake.

johnf_456, Dec 18, 9:52am
Biker is talking about rego (free loading) not about the driving.

gadgetman, Dec 18, 9:58am
I mentioned the rego because there are those who think cyclists should not be on the roads.

No doubt I am going to see more of those stupid people on the roads as I ride my tricycle. I try to reduce the incidents by keeping eye on the mirrors and wearing a flag.

People keep telling me that because my trike is low it is hard to see. If you have problems of seeing other vehicles on the road you should not be driving.

hijacka, Dec 18, 9:58am
***Go, Go Gadget Finger!***
Haha

johnf_456, Dec 18, 9:59am
I never said anything about been able to see you idiot. lol

vtecintegra, Dec 18, 10:00am
Actual lol

gadgetman, Dec 18, 10:01am
I already had an accident, but not in traffic. It was flying accident and I crashed my paraglider if you want to know. So now my cycling is part of my recovery and I need to be on the road to do that.

johnf_456, Dec 18, 10:01am
I actually agree with biker

gadgetman, Dec 18, 10:08am
They were!

gadgetman, Dec 18, 10:09am
What is that rule about leaving 1.5m space for a bicycle! Or is that just a recommendation!

johnf_456, Dec 18, 10:10am
recommendation to my knowledge

rsr72, Dec 18, 10:11am
Unfortunately the type of low machine you are using makes it very difficult to see on the road.
You really must have a death wish to be using it on the open road.

rsr72, Dec 18, 10:17am
And it's not really a bicycle,
but more of a contraption really.
