Sick of fixing my unreliable car

It's worth maybe about $8000. I've spent $2000 recently on fixing two oil leaks and other intermittent problems.
Now I think the air conditioning is stuffed. It doesn't cool like it used to, and there was a horrible grinding noise when I switched it off.
The wipers wipe every now and then even though they are switched off.
At night the headlights go off for a second whenever I go over a bump. I think it needs a new computer for the lights.

Apart from that it is a very nice car!

You didn't buy a Cavalier because of the Toyota badge did you!

phillip.weston, Mar 24, 5:44am
what's the car!

craig04, Mar 24, 5:58am
The million dollar question.

dunbar01, Mar 24, 6:02am
Sorry buddy, but a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay.

johnf_456, Mar 24, 6:06am
Make and model of car please

trade4us2, Mar 24, 6:07am
Does the make matter! It's just a car.

If I tell you you'll say I'm mad anyway!

johnf_456, Mar 24, 6:07am
Yes and no its not just a car every car is not built the same. So make and model!

trade4us2, Mar 24, 6:09am

haha no comment

thejazzpianoma, Mar 24, 6:14am
Just as well the U.K reliability ratings don't apply to NZ

thejazzpianoma, Mar 24, 6:15am
The good news is the air conditioning is apparently reliable.

johnf_456, Mar 24, 6:16am
Yup who needs suspension and axles eh

thejazzpianoma, Mar 24, 6:17am
Pfffff so long as you are cool what else matters!

a18a, Mar 24, 6:19am
The headlight issue sounds like it's due to a lack of headlight fluid. You should probably get it flushed.

trade4us2, Mar 24, 6:24am
I'll take it to an auto electrican and suggest that I'll pay him if he fixes it. Otherwise I wont.

intrade, Mar 24, 6:26am
a jag! i can tell you what the problem is water is getting in to the fuse board. that is causing symptoms like you discribe. water usually enters the car on faulty windscreen seal.

trade4us2, Mar 24, 6:38am
Fuse board is in the boot and it's nice and dry.
Whatever is driving the headlight relay is making it go off. I think it's the computer. Seems like a loose wire somewhere to me.

fordcrzy, Mar 24, 6:40am
bad ground somwhere

trade4us2, Mar 24, 6:58am
Something makes the wiper wipe randomly when it's switched off.
Is that an earth too!
I could wire up my own switches to the headlights and wiper, but surely someone could find the problem! I used to be able to fix most of my cars but this has computers in it.

stevo2, Mar 24, 7:06am
Is it out of Singapore!
cheers stevo

johnf_456, Mar 24, 7:13am
Get a real car

trade4us2, Mar 24, 7:39am
Yes. Does that make a difference!
It's gone well for a couple of years until now.

vtecintegra, Mar 24, 7:44am
Yes.High humidity can increase the chance of electrical problems down the track.

ginga4lyfe, Mar 24, 7:47am
ouch. just sell it and buy another NOT from Singapore, then you will enjoy a good car.
