the cops just want to inconvience you , walking or huge lawyers bill, they dont care, as long as it pisses you off

framtech, Nov 15, 6:51pm
All this caused by a few dickheads in places like colombo street in chch have ruined it for the many.
Other problem is all the crappy front wheeldrive cars that have poor traction.
Cops aren't stupid, little dicks in so called boy racer cars are a cop magnet and a pain in the arse to most people, theyshould grow some balls and go real motor racing and stay off the roads at night.

rsr72, Nov 15, 6:57pm
The courts determine that.
That's democracy.

horsygirl, Nov 15, 7:27pm
in my day you did the crime you did the time.todays little gay boys run to mummy who gets a lawyer.for fawks sake tuffen up.become a man.

peril787b1, Nov 15, 9:08pm
Who says he actually did the crime! In many cases these days, the police merely "say" you did it and you lose your car and get a fine. Admittedly, for some it may be karma catching uo with them, but there are also innocent parties being ticketed based purely on the type of vehivle they drive and it ends up being the police officers word against yours (and we all know how that ends up).

glensidevilla, Nov 15, 9:16pm
Years ago my stupid mate in a fit of girl trouble took his noisy track racing car out for a blat on the Streets at night with no lights and a skinful.and rolled it into some ones lawn. Cops turned up, tow trucks, big drama. It was going to be serious.and he waited and waited for the grim news to turn up in the mail.never happened. Zip, nadda, not even demerit points.

zak1998, Nov 15, 9:54pm
Buy a car with traction control wont get towed then.

shimmy93, Nov 15, 10:55pm
often regarding such actions people comment that there is a 'time and place' however isn't most of the problem the fact that for young hoons there is no 'place' !

matthew111, Nov 16, 8:34am
wait. Police will contact you later.

richardmayes, Nov 16, 9:53am
It sounds like the OP has learned from his experience.
Too bad some of our FTP regulars cannot ;-)

they are only doing their job and yes they deal with boyracers a lot and should be dealt with severely but hey I don't know if that gives cop right to be rude to anyone who get pulled over.
I was very passive and co operating and said yep yep to every exaggurated thing he said only because a friend told me don't piss the cop off or I could be in trouble. I questioned the cop why he wrote 'parts' of what I told him in his statement book(which made it look like I admit everything he accused of), he asked me am i calling him a liar, i said no!
But i genuinely think I got more that what I deserved so will try my best to sort this out somehow.

fordguy17, Nov 16, 12:11pm
Yeah i must admit the cops do have a fair amount of attitude problems, some of it comes down to the idiots and scum they deal with everyday, however that is no excuse. They have gone from a service to a force. Nowadays people are guilty until proven innocent, i am yet to meet a cop who has been polite and unassuming, even though i am friendly and polite to them while doing nothing wrong. I'm talking about the average breath test or license check, wind the window down "G'day, hows it going!" only to be met with a cold one worded reply and a dozen "where are you going, what are you doing and why" questions.

fordguy17, Nov 16, 12:37pm
Hahaha yeah that would go down really well! Another good one is "have you been drinking tonight sir!" Yes officer, two cups of water.

elect70, Nov 16, 1:11pm
you are in good company ,even John Reaa mature insurance agent got pinged in his brand new Merc loss of license also meant he couldnt race his camoro in the GT1 racesfor 6 months .Im sure he defended it too , saying it was accidental due to the amount of power.

240142, Nov 16, 1:19pm
did he win! And what was the outcome of it if you don't mind me asking.

richardmayes, Nov 16, 1:32pm
And that as a defence would be utter BS in my humble opinion. No-one accidentally lights the tyres up, especially in a "factory fast" car like that Merc.

How the freak would I know!

I had a go of a mate's supercharged smallblock Chev a month or so ago, I believe it makes about 900 brake if you give it full lolly. More power than all the cars I've owned put together.
I managed to give this thing a reasonable bit of a squirt on the motorway without ever spinning the wheels. Nasty sticky throttle that thing had too.

kwkbrk, Nov 16, 1:45pm
And further to this NEVER agree to accompany a policeman to the station, NEVER give a statement whether innocent or guilty, NEVER agree if a policeman asks if he can take notes which he has to do if you`ve refused to give a statement as he can still use this in court.
And NEVER plead guilty to anything. Demand a defended hearing, you can always change your pleas once you have caused the most inconvenience. The day before your defended hearing is best.
Protect yourself at all times and trust no one . don`t forget, they drew the battle lines, they are losing, and they hate to be reminded of it.

kwkbrk, Nov 16, 2:05pm
My daughter was in a car rear ended at speed by a bus on the motorway some years ago, stopped because of three punctures caused by those things being scattered all over the road, along with four other vehicles. She has continuing difficulties.
There is nothing good about them.

240142, Nov 16, 2:14pm
I didn't admit, I was explaining a whole story but he only wrote down parts of it which made it look like I admit.
Does it mean there is no point for defended hearing if he got those notes from my statement!

kwkbrk, Nov 16, 2:59pm
If you plead not guilty 2 things will happen . you will be provided with all the information the police will use in court to prosecute you. This includes all notebook entries. From this information it is pretty obvious whether you have a shot at getting off or not.
In my case it was useful in that according to their notebook entries 3 police men saw 3 different things and when cross examined none of them would admit they were wrong, and even stupider that their mates were wrong. One of them also got the time wrong by an hour and I caught him out lying about how it happened. I got off .
More importantly and of greater consideration is the inconvenience factor for the police in having to prepare a file for a defended hearing.
I plead not guilty to my last speeding ticket and changed my plea to guilty the day before the hearing. The fine and costs was less than the instant fine had I have paid it !

240142, Nov 16, 3:15pm
You plead not guilty at 'status hearing' which is first appearance at court, right!
Then another day is set for defended hearing - by when I need to get myself a lawyer!

noodle34, Nov 16, 3:54pm
A cop once tried this on with me i said if the F**n road was maintained properley and didn't have loose gravel on it then it wouldn't happen.

supernova2, Nov 16, 7:40pm
if police withdraw charges at court you CAN get your costs paid by Police.Lawyers in gedneral say you cant cause they dont want to get too offside with the coppers.Just write toPolice Complaints or wahtever it is called now and wait.Believe me eventually you will get a call from some local bigwig copper who will offer you a cheque for your costs in exchange for you signing an undertaking not to sue them.Pity more innocent people dont do this

240142, Nov 16, 8:08pm
could you please explain it a bit more!
Any idea what lawyers might cost in the long run! I swear the officer was exaggerating by saying he saw white smoke and skidding.

240142, Nov 16, 8:08pm
I read through few articles, asked for advise from older people and came up with 2 options -

Tell cops what exactly happened which in my case was unintentional and the officer was rude labelled me boy racer impounded my car rightaway and see what they think of it.

or

plead not guilty and get a lawyer, its very easy to prove whatever the officer got as evidence is rubbish, unless he is being extremely dishonest lying through his teeth to the judge he saw something which he didn't.
Any other options!
