Hi I am looking at purchasing the above BMW and the AA report has come back saying the following: The minor issues with the car will mostly be fixed with a service, oil and coolant and brake fluid need changing. The said the front brake pads "appear" low but wouldnt know without taking the wheels off, these were fine at the last warrent so im not sure about that. Engine test indicates late valve timing.There is a small power steering leak in the pump area - which ws pointed out at the last warrent but we were advised it was only small compared to normal with bmws, and common. Drive belts are worn and may need looking at at some point.Also the battery may need looking at come winter because the charge rate is low.Tyres, brakes and electricals are fine. Is it worth buying or is it a lemon!I dont mind spending some money on it becuase it is cheap, but I am just wondering how much money it is going to take! Is it worth buying the car and fixing it up knowing that everything is done or spending the money on something else then waiting for things to need doing!

forget AA reports a 5 year old kid can write a more accurate report then them. they put stuff like scratched paint but fail to see that the autmatic transmission is stuffed for example, You want a propper mechanic to check it over.

That is a typical AA report, they just have a carbon copy, Take it to a real mechanic to get a decent report,

Have the car inspected by a BMW Specialist if you're worried about it, but basically it sounds fine so far.

The thing that is scaring me is the late valve timing, sounds serious!

How does he work out late valve timing, when he can't even tell you how worn the pads "appear" !

AA and VTNZ are rubbish when it comes to pre purchase reports. Best to take it to a good mechanic or a BMW workshop for one.

Problem is the car is in Nelson and I am in Blenheim, I don't know any good mechanics in Nelson.

If the rego is EEN. you should ask for ALL of the service history, specifically in respect of recent engine work. Be prepared to put a new short block in it.
