there used to be a brake shoppe in avenues near repco, well around that area anyway.

I have had a couple made up a few years ago from the place on first or second ave.
However I learn't two things:
1. The made up one was dearer than what I could buy them new for.
2. Damage that I couldn't see to the inner casing caused the made up one to fail very quickly despite being made of heavier cable.

Cheers I'll have a look around those ways. The issue is getting the M6 rods to attach to each end of the cable. I tried solder but it seems like some great feck off crimping tool is required.

Go and see the boys at Cookes, They make up cables with that type of arrangement for yacht's rigging.

Don't have a welder do you!
Can't say I have tried welding those cables but believe it or not I have welded starter motor brush's on before to excellent effect. Obviously, do so at your own risk but if you have nothing to lose and can do some testing on some scrap why not try!
But yes, I believe they use some sort of intercourse related crimping tool.
