amazing discovery, hope they can get it out before it is stripped for scrap

74nova, May 12, 6:04am
That is cool.

locky6, May 12, 7:02am
Cheers for that, fascinating.

grangies, May 12, 7:09am
The cost of pulling it down for scrap value wouldn't be worth it.

If it is in a remote part of desert it would cost mega bucks just to get a retrieval vehicle there in the first place to load the scrap on.

A government funded museum or private collector are the only enterprises that may pull it out.

Has to be one of the most misinformed, or should I say dumbest, statements I have seen in a long time.

Thanks for the link, amazing find.

Spoken like a true expert.

Well please inform me how the plane could viably be removed for scrap metal $$!

Go on please .

mantagsi, May 12, 7:49am
The folk there are hardy buggers, like army ants. If they knew there was profit in it they would be in there and have it cut up and scrapped as fast as you please, don't mind the 400 mile round trip!

grangies, May 12, 7:54am
No . It is just one small plane.

The aluminum in that plane is worth bugger all.

matt5209, May 12, 8:03am
Its worth a little more than scrap value. If its reasonably intact (as it looks) then a restoration will end with it being worth millions, literally.Collectors have found planes in far more difficult spots, recovered them and then restored them to flying condition.

dr.doolittle, May 12, 8:23am
OK, the locals earn very little, Oh forget it. You're probably to thick.

kingfisher21, May 12, 9:01am
Pray they get to it before some idiot wrecks it.

flat_white_ltd, May 12, 9:11am
".Pilot of the Kittyhawk P-40 was thought to have survived crash, but died trying to walk out of the desert."
.
Ouch. Poor blighter.

cuda.340, May 12, 9:32am
don't you hate that when that happens!

grangies, May 13, 3:22am
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

But a 400 mile round trip!. Hmmmm. It would cost them more in the supplies they need for the journey than the scrap metal value.
