I owned a 96 for 55,000 kms. It got worked hard, lots of hill work and some boat towing. Probably only 10% of use would be open road cruising. Average consumption for the 55,000 kms was 12.7 litres/100km.
Worst tankfull was 14.4 litre/100 km. Best tankfull was 10.5 litres/100km.

before buying a Surf take a look how close the bums of the front seats are to the floor. My son has a Surf for work and I find it very uncomfortable to sit in as your legs are close to the floor like a sports car.no good for long distance. I had a 97 Prado for a hack for about 3 years and it was a lot more comfortable. around 13.5 litres per 100 kms was average for me. This model needs radiator to be in good condition, if temp rises it's not hard to crack the head. good vehicle though.

you meaning the old KZN/LN-130 surfs!1990-1995

the KZN / RZN-185 (1995-2002) have a much higher seat, but not upright like a prado.

The surf feels to me almost like a car body on a truck chassis, the prado is a truck on a truck chassis.

cornering wise the prado cant touchthe surf, with the prado being a lot more roll-ey
