I am just wondering if anybody has driven one of these 1998 or 99 models, manual 2000cc.Any known issues with them!Cheers

-from what i understand is,they're not free to run and you'll be roving all over this land looking for spare parts !

One of the most unrealiable, gutless vehicles ever manufactured.

If you really want a Freelander, get the late model one with a diesel engine. Very good power and torque. However, if your budget is limited, then the 2 litre petrol with a manual gearbox is the safest buy of the Freelander fleet (ie. don't get the V6 auto, etc.).

ive been told its a $1000 job to change the thermostat on the v6 engine. and thats not even from a landrover workshop.

they go ok when they are going but there is always some little thing crapping out, that always seems to cost an arm to fix

Only if they are retarded. Do KV6 thermostats and pipes on freelanders and rover 75's often. If you know what you are doing it can be done with manifold on and under an hour if the plastic doesnt break upon removal. Try the land rover agent just for a laugh, they may do it cheaper because they can do it faster.

Don't buy one. They are crap. The v6s have3 cambelts

Here we go again.
V6 is crap - totally agree. We had no mechanical problems in several years ownership of an ex-demo modelpetrol 2 litre and also 5 years with a TD4 diesel.
Check service history - but that applies with any car and get it thoroughly checked - and find a local mechanic who is not biased against them.Using a biased mechanic is just asking for trouble
We are now on our 3rd, bought new, (another TD4)and wouldn't buy anything else.

Freelander 2 socram!

socram, May 26, 7:26am
Yes - now.Had it two years. Even more competent than the earlier versions - especially when towing, as it is rated at 2,800kg.Overall economy to date including far too much local heavy traffic driving, plus towing a car transporter, is a very respectable 9.2L/100.
Living elsewhere and with more open road driving, 8 would be more realistic.

Don't buy one.

That is a typical, very (un)informative post.
