Every time I'm on call, this exact scenario happens to me too. On average one car a week. I attend a breakdown, tow them back to the garage, do head a gasket check, blown. "Will we make it to Auckland!" Errr.NO!

The radiator cap obviously hadn't been opened in a while, there was a film of rust in the neck of the top tank that I had to poke my finger through! "Did you check your coolant level before you left auckland!" "ummmmm no". Hadn't been checked in a long, long time, obviously
