That's going to be the required "average" - about 65 miles per (imperial) gallon, about 3.6 litres per 100km.
I don't think there's a car model sold new in NZ today, including hybrids and little diesels (Fiesta) that would meet this standard.
And it's only a little more than a decade from now.

doesnt the Touran do that now

mm12345, Aug 28, 10:24pm
Only while it's being pushed to the nearest Euro repair shop.
I'm looking forward to seeing the specs for the 2025 Corvette.

Its not that big a leap for 13 years. Our Grande Punto will settle in to 3.7l/100km on the open road and that model has been out for quite a few years now.

Remember economy is actually becoming a priority now, look how much average safety improved in 10years once it became a priority.

craig04, Aug 29, 7:52am
No. As most Tourans are used as tow vehicles, the economy is usually only around 6l/100kms.

I think I get like 22mpg (imperial) for the cage

thejazzpianoma, Aug 29, 7:55am
Perhaps a fraction more with two miniature horses in the back.

00quattro00, Aug 29, 8:00am
My car made in 1979 does 4l/100km now, with a bit of tuning im sure I could get it down, or just run on waste oil

thejazzpianoma, Aug 29, 8:00am
The comedy thing though is that craig04 is not actually making much of an exaggeration!

A Diesel one is capable of 7.5l/100km with a good sized caravan on behind.

See for yourself

Imagine if you could combine the lack of weight and emissions restrictions of an older car like yours with the more efficient diesel technology of today.
Its a shame that much of the progress in economy has been masked by the weight of safety equipment and comfort features, plus the restrictions of emissions controls.
