my boot won't open. had to take the car seats out and fold the seat down to get stuff from the boot out.

nothing at all. the handle moves up and down, but just acts as though it's locked.

Thats a bit weird that it can't be mechanically unlocked, unless the lock barrel controls the actuator (the electric motor that locks and unlocks the boot latch) electrically. If all the other doors are working ok I'd say the actuator has died, a link rod has come off or maybe one of the wires that runs into the tailgate has broken. So yeah maybe time to get some pro help.

Maybe the problem is between the handle and the latch, and nothing to do with the lock!
