Car Odom Meter

Is there anyway you can see if your car odometer has been wound back! When I look at it none of the numbers line up. Thanks

that can happen to anything.

I look for:
~ broken clips, burred/missing screws needing to be tampered with to remove the speedo cluster.
~ Abnormal wear patterns, eg worn brake pedal on a car with only 60,000km. Same with upholstery and steering wheel.
~ Other things that may give away the milage, eg cambelt next due at 190,000km sticker when car only has 60,000km on it
~ Carjam report, study the milage records for any inconsistencies in the recorded milages (remember that WOF inspectors can mis-type the numbers so take that into consideration if there are odd numbers, also remember that these records are only for when the car has been in NZ)
~ Are any of the digits on the odometer scratched from something like a pick or screwdriver!

Ultimately its the condition of the car that matters, milage is just an indicator of what to expect and not necessarily what the actual car condition is.
