Hi, in a Ford auto transmission, is it common for a grinding/humming noise to be heard from the gearbox while the car is in park and your foot is on the brake!If you take foot off brake, noise goes away.Is this a major!

Need more info as that description is far too vague. Have you experimented by doing other tests like
1/ Turn A/C off 2/ Move steering wheel and advising any difference in sound. 3/ Shift to neutral, is it still noisy
But to name a few.
