whatever it is it won't suit everyone for sure but surely if the user has to pay he should only pay for what he uses - not 3 times that then try to claim 2/3rds back later

By car size maybe! big car big rego, small car small rego, motorbikes are small so small rego.

we do already vtec, gst paid at pump for farm fuel is only a form to fill out annually and the gst is back in your account, not hard to add other taxes to the gst lump, could even proportion on usage for mowers boats bikes even filling the Cessna get my gst back at the end of the year ( yes I use 98 pump gas in 200 lt drums filled at the local)

my two cents, I think just putting road user charges on all vehicles is the way to go, so you end up paying for the distance/road used. Rego'ing drivers wouldn't work well because that means my wife who does bugger all driving still has to pay the same as me who drives alot more. And it means if i own more than one car I still only pay for total KM's

I don't know why we are arguing about this.its not like any of us have any say at all so it is all just a waist of out time

I'm happy with the 6 monthly WoF just feel they should get rid of some of the little pettifoggingrules dreamed up by desk bound dictators at the NZTA.

So, you could have 4 bald tyres, blown head light bulbs and a smashed windscreen and pass a wof that's going to be valid for 3 years!
skin1235,
Sep 19, 7:38pm
1, we're not arguing about it, just expressing our thoughts as they occur 2, there is to be a process of public consultation/submission 3, we were going to waste this time comparing dick sizes anyway lol
wind.turbine,

that's good, my thought is why am I wasting my time. I'm glad we are on the same page
skin1235,

just like one plan won't suit everyone, one person could not find a resolution for this
but if a lot of people put their thoughts into the hat then a consensus may be realised, and submissions may get made and who knows, some of the ideals may actually get to be seen, even adopted, or alter the eventual outcome in some way ( for the better)
or we've got a lot of time to waste

already happening, they get their payouts from winz.

I think there will need to be an investment required by wof places to install brake rollers, not cheap.

Keep the WOFthe way it is now it works fine and put the rego on the fuel pump. Thats my 5cents worth.

As no other country in the world has it, why should little NZ, down here at the very bottom of the world!

Yeah. I got a reject 'costhere was some moisture in my Fog lights. Not as if I even use them.Same would go forNumber Plate light its hardly a safety issue.OR a faulty rear window wiper when many cars dont even have them.

Aint it a grand ol plan.-First of allthe punishment for driving a car without a WOF is a slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket. Then we ensure we have the oldest fleet in the civilised world. Then we ensure that those entrusted with doing what they can to keep us safe on the roads are underesourced But heck thats ok -its not a recipe for disaster
rsr72,
Sep 20, 6:32am
It's a promoted motor-trade nonsense that we have 'the oldest fleet in the world'. The USA fleet age is just over 11 years while NZ is 13 years. Not a great difference at all, let alone compared with many other countries.

I wonder if every suggestion is going to boil down to "everyone else other than me should pay more because that's fair, while I should pay less because that's fair"!
Bet ya that's going to be 99% of the responses.
intrade,

this was just on tv said no wof for new cars till 3 years amd then no wof unless change of owner. the motorasociation will fight the proposal they said. I wonder why they love milking us every 6 month thats probably why . The only problem is that people got no clue that a wof is not a service they would need to run some tv adds to tell everyone what a wof actuarly is there for.

I think a change like this is long overdue. The vehicle licence should stay the same as I don't adding it on to petrol is a good idea. We as motorist will end up getting dicked more what ever the outcome.
catbrat,

already enough unliscensed drivers unwarranted cars & unregistered cars out there waiting to cause carnage, most nzers look after thier cars but there are a certain few who dont care and are a danger this will just make it easier for them,we need to change our attitude that to drive is a privledge not a right
intrade,
Sep 20, 7:56am
so Why do we need to be punished and have to pay every 6 month for a inspection since we keep our cars up to standard and the others who dont care dont have to pay because they dont even bother to get a wof or rego to beginn with . the money can be used towards maintainace of the car , and people who dont keep there car up get pink stickers and need to get a w.o.f then. Would mean my cars probably never would need one.

Howwould farmers&contractors get on now, they wouldhave to claim a rebate forroad taxportionon bulk fuel.
intrade,
Sep 20, 7:59am
you are right the attitude needs changing not thinking you can drive a car 6 month and just put fuel and oil in and do what the next wof faild you treating a wof like a service that is where it goes wrong and there is tousends of people with that mind set they should all be walking.

if the government decides the only time you need a warrant is when you sell a car. life as a dealer will be difficuilt as every car you trade will need a thoroughworkshop check to establish its value
