What car to buy?

kiwibird74, Sep 17, 3:31am
Hi all.bear with me. female here!I am going to new job and losing my company car. so need to buy a new one.The budget is up to $15k (preferably $10k!) and want it to do the following:-

- take the dog in the boot (hatchback, station wagon, SUV!)
- take the kyacks on the roof/ bike rack on the back
- tow - nothing heavy - but a trailer now and again!
- be economical.
- be reliable and/or cheap to fix (no fancy european stuff!)

Looking at a Toyota, Hyundai or Honda. only becuase those are what I have had in the past and always been reliable. any strong views on any particular make or model I should look at!Thanks all.

Theres a fair few options for you in that price range. If planning to tow make sure you check the max weight you are planning on towing. Some vehicles have restricted tow ability.

casper35, Sep 17, 5:44am
If you are going to do towing stay away from the CVT transmissions.

Spend a bit more and get a Mitsubishi Outlander or Toyota Rav4

um did you read his criteria . he wants reliable and economical. neither of the cars you mention are any of that.

a.woodrow, Sep 17, 8:04am
Um did you read the criteria! not much room for kayaks or grunt for towing

and "he" is a "her" :)

Have you not taken your medication today!

Both the vehicles suggested will do all that OP is looking for and more. Both the vehicles suggested have spent considerable time at number one in their segment. And there is good reason for it!

The down side is that a good one will be a little outside the budget stated.

wont find a decent outlander for 15k and under, but rav4 yes

intrade, Sep 17, 8:16am
calm down lol i matched afew criteria that i find importatnt i was hoping his dog was only a swollen ant

fordcrzy, Sep 17, 8:17am
based on the criteria i would get a 1800cc toyota fielder around 2004 or so. otherwise i would have recommended a 2004+ mondeo wagon

kazbanz, Sep 17, 8:19am
hey lazzo I agree with you 100%except on ONE point
- take the dog in the boot (hatchback, station wagon, SUV!)YUP
- take the kyacks on the roof/ bike rack on the backYUP
- tow - nothing heavy - but a trailer now and again!YUP
- be economical. definitely NOPE
- be reliable and/or cheap to fix -Yup on the Toyota but NOPE on the outlander
I guess it depends which of the criteria is the most important. I suspect given the OP does a few mileslikely economy will be.
On that basis i think corolla feilder or runx/alex are her best bet

intrade, Sep 17, 8:22am
basically no car exists that maches all of his criteria , what is top preiority of the criteria is the question. For me economy is number 1 but is me not him

kiwibird74, Sep 17, 8:47pm
Thanks everyone (other than those who can't read and called me a he!). will start looking into some of these. now for the colour. :-)

eagles9999, Sep 17, 8:49pm
Read carefully! the OP is a she not a he!

kiwibird74, Sep 17, 8:49pm

kiwibird74, Sep 17, 8:49pm

kiwibird74, Sep 17, 9:01pm

A lot of people on here dont read the whole of the threads anyway Buy a v8 holden it only misses out one of your criteria but it will be a lot of fun to drive
