honda accord 1991`2.2 wagon will start in 3rd gear or manually shift it to 2nd and it will pick up speed so you can shift back to 3rd.reverse is ok .

Check the fluid level! There may be a solenoid problem.

Does it have a 'snow' button! Once the car/trans is warm, does it then begin to start in 1st speed!

Yes, check this. A snow button (a little button somewhere with a snowflake on it) will make the auto take off from a stand still in 2nd to reduce wheel spin.

cold or hot its the same.and the green light stays on but goes away as soon as you start moving!
