1996 toyota 4x4 auto 2lte diesel

was after an engine if enyone has one, or knows were one was, it could be 2.8 non turbo, 2.4 non turbo, just something that would bolt up to my gear box.

pretty sure they didnt have the 2lte motor in 964x4 model, could be wrong though

Yip ya could be wrong. late 96 is when the 2L-TE was fazed out for the 1KZ-T so early 96 production was still using the 2L-TE

well if it's a surf that's wrong too. they started putting the 1kz-te in from 93, and at that time stopped using the 2l-te95 or 96 was the end of the KZN130 surfs and the KZN185 began

cant think of any other 96 4wd's op could be talking about with the 2lte

LN130 draged through to 96 also.shit only been working for Toyota for 12 years I guess I could have been day dreaming while working on them!

oh and I think you will find the 93 KZN was fitted with a 1KZ-T not TE it had a mechanical pump not EFI

im pretty sure all surf's with 1kz's were TE's- though if someone showed me one that wasnt i'd bite my tongue.

the earlier landcruisers however ran mechanical pumps

you can only fit L blocks to that gearbox. I got exactly the same pile of crap as you it had a 2L-te engine My one runs now since 8 years a 1982 65hp 2.2 L from a ute the old L are indistructable but you need first gear or low range up hills towing heavy things. Also be warned the engine has a dualmass flywheel the 2L-te. i would say you want to bring it to the crusher or sell it for parts .

+1, the earliest 1KZTE Surfs I've seen and worked on have been 1993 models.

older L engine has a solid mass flywheel but it wont bolt on the 1989 2L. as the bolt pattern is different , The newer 1990 onwards 2.8 also have solid mass flywheels all other have dualmass crap that you cant get clutchkits for repairing.

the year is a bit strange but who knows if its a 2L-te as that would be how its written on the plate under the bonnet then all i have posted apply it wont matter what year it is then.

Yip 93 was the start of the 1KZ powered KZN130. But LN130 pushed through along side until 1996. The 2L-TE was used in some models (chaser) right up to 2000

The Kzn130 didn't come out with a mechanical pump.
